Ohh cdma is sprint thats right! so GSM is Tmobile. Okay, got it. I am going to look some information on GSM up, if i find anything interesting, ill let you guys know. I am sure i wont find anything that you guys dont already know but hey, anythings possible, so well see.
ps. I am going to stay with sprint until my contracts up, at least 5 more months. I do have phones that i do NOT use, like the nokia 6195 ( i believe thats the model ) its like the first nokia that came out along time ago, its easy to use, no big confusing features, do you think theyd accept that?

id like to do something nice like that! I am just not sure where i would go to donate a phone for the elderly emergency.. hmm, do you know nic?

nope. it's a sprint phone (cdma) and won't work on t-mo (gsm).

if you abandoned sprint, you might want to sell it, or if you don't need the money, donate it to a program that gives inactive phones to elderly for emergencies.

See T-Mobile's ad for the Motorola PEBL? It was the one where what seemed to be a meteor slammed into the earth. I like how it says "exclusively at T-Mobile" at the end of the ad.

Thanks for explaining about the unlock and locked phone thing..
it appears that there is no big advantage to unlocking the phone
and by the time you get it unlocked, most people will be
upgrading into a newer phone anyways...

This wireless thing is really GOING bonkers lately.

I couldnt believe the ads on the superbowl...2/3 were
    related to cell phones...

anyhow, i have a lot to learn about this industry and
I plan on asking a lot of questions so bear with me

    Thanks again...

sidenote: i see a lot of inquiries for unlocking junky phones, ie. c1300 (which i'm rocking!), but there isn't really any purpose to doing this. i have it for cingular, and the only 'unlocking' benefit would be to transfer it to t-mo. but if you're switching, i assume you could get a way better phone at signup. and going overseas with it, forget it. it's not even compatible with euro cell bands (that I know of).

Plexus man, you can also use phone's that would never be sold in the United States. For example, I have a Samsung E730. No US Carrier sells that phone. Since my E730 is unlocked, I get to put my T-Mobile SIM card in it and use it with my T-Mobile service.

The only bad thing about using an unlocked phone is that if anything goes wrong with it, your cell phone carrier won't cover it because it is not one of their phones.

    Sam welcome to CPF:

Although there are several types of "locks" that can apply to a phone, the most talked-about type is a carrier lock, also known as a SIM lock or subsidy lock.

Many phones sold by carriers come "locked" to that carrier. A "locked" phone can only be used with that carrier; it cannot be used with another carrier's service. (Not counting roaming.)

This lock can usually be removed by entering a special code or numeric password. In some situations, some carriers will supply this code upon request by the customer; not all carriers will do this.

There are also third-party companies that sell such codes, or other types of unlocking services.

Once your handset is unlocked, you can used for example a Cingular branded phone with T-Mobile's network or vice-versa provided that the T-Mobile handset is quadband to cover Cingular's 850 mHz band.

Another advantage is that if you travel overseas you can use a prepaid sim card to save on international roaming charges.

i am sorry if i got anyone upset by what i wrote but, at that point, when i read that, i didnt care.. i was too upset to just let that slide without letting him know what i thought.. so if I offended anyone, i am SORRY. i am NEVER like that, i NEVER yell at anyone OR give anyone an attitude UNLESS its absalutely NESSASARY and in this case, i felt i had a right to let the author of that post, know how i felt.. but again, i do apologize if i offended anyone with anything i wrote, as that wasnt my intentions..
thank u for taking care of that issue though, tony, jeani, and others! =)

Renizay, you don't have to worry about this individual posting insults of that nature again, he will not get a warning next time and he will be personally banned by me, if other Mods don't get to him first, we're keeping an eye on him.

reban, that comment was NOT nessasary and NO it doesnt make me or anyone else feel uncomfortable the way ANYONE talks on here. infact, these people ( gay or NOT ) are the NICEST people ive ever met in my life and they are actually helpful! i dont find ANYTHING they say "uncomfortable" They have RESPECT, unlike YOU, who come on here, flaming other people. you have NO right talking that way about ANYONE. The only one who is making me feel uncomforable, is YOU. If you truly feel so uncomforatble, than maybe you should go to another website. I am actually OFFENDED by that comment and no not because i am "gay" but i have family and friends, BEST friends who ARE. Ive NEVER in my LIFE heard ANYONE talk that way, EVER. Maybe thats because the people i know, have respectful, considerate, not narrow minded, mature, and have emotions. i cannot believe im even responding to such a rude comment. The only reason i am, is to let you know how obnoxious and unnessasary that was. next time, keep your OFFENSIVE comments to yourself OR go elsewhere!! Comments like that are unwelcome, as are people like you, who come on here to make fun of anothers sexual preference OR make fun of ANYTHING else about ANY member here. Read the rules and guidelines before posting any further, IF you decide its absalutely nessasary that u stay. IF you do infact stay, PLEASE refrain from comments like your previous statement above. Its totally RUDE! i can not stress enough how OFFENDED i am by your statement. Please, if you wouldnt want someone saying it to you, then PLEASE do NOT post it here! There are TONS of other websites, who probably DONT mind that you post things of that nature but.. we do here. So, i am done replying to you, people like you do not even deserve a reply!! I dont normally give in to such comments. I just felt a reply was URGENTLY and PROMPTLY warranted in this situation. How would you feel if someone said something like this to YOU, or your family? You would be upset, right? of course! ABSALUTELY, you would be angry.. so before u insult or offend someone else, maybe, just MAYBE, after reading this, youll think twice before doing so next time. At least i hope you think twice, cause you are hurting people that dont deserve it
    GOODBYE*

    * Also, Reban, im not looking for you to reply and im sure no1 else is either, unless its an apology.., just read this and really THINK about it. That was such a harsh and mean thing to say

sorry i couldnt edit my last post, cause it went over 10 minutes..but this is the updated and new verison of what i wanted to say...

locked phone = locked to a provider (ex. cing or tmo)
unlocked phone = open to accept any sim

of course, i'm speaking in strictly gsm terms.

question, when you buy a razor or any other phone, arent they already unlocked, if im not mistaken?? I always thought locked phones, were phones previously used, with another company and then someone sells you the phone and you need to get it "unlocked" to re use it, most of the time, with another company. is this correct? If so, why do you need to unlock the razor, is it used?
