I bought a Boost Motorola i1 today. I put my Nextel card into it and it says 'Locked by Network' press menu to input code or make emergency call.

Pressing menu allows you to put in an 8 digit code in a box labeled 'Enter Special Code'.

If you put the wrong code in 3 times it comes up with an error message that says something like 'Subsidy penalty, please wait'. This completely locks the phone for about 3 hours. (I know this b/c Boost initially insisted that the unlock code was 8 zeros)

I have been on the phone for over 5 hours now with Nextel, Boost, and Motorola, everyone seems to point the finger elsewhere, but you will absolutely need a Subsidy unlock code for your Boost i1 to release it from the Boost network to allow you to use a Nextel card in it. Motorola says that is a code installed by Boost, so they have no knowledge of a bypass, Sprint says the same thing.

Boost was the hardest to crack b/c their customer service may be the dumbest people I have ever spoken to, until I finally got a supervisor who says he understands exatcly what I am talking about, and "although Boost isn't in the business of releasing their phones to be used by other carriers, we would give you a code if you were persistant, however, we do not have any codes as of yet for this phone, you are the first to even call about one to my knowledge, I wouldn't even know where to transfer you to try to track one down".

Again, a Nextel card will not work in a Boost i1 without an unlock code, which doesn't seem to exist yet, unless you have a website do it, which is what I am in the process of doing now

    LATER ON THAT EVENING:
I was never able to get it done via phone calls, but I found a guy on eBay, $20, figured I would give it a shot.

Everything worked exactly as directed, little bit of software download, a couple emails back and forth, 30 minutes later, my Nextel Sim works with my Boost Mobile Motorola i1.

PM me if you want the info for the company on ebay I used, I don't want to give it out here, I don't know if that's allowed.

You may have to call nextel when you are done to have them register the IMEI number of the phone to your account. I don't know for sure, but Sprint did it one time when I was on the phone with them through the course of yesterday, so I don't know if you will instantly have service from Nextel unless you do.

[= Gjjdemarco; 1394018] UPDATE for anyone who wants it. I1 Motorola bought up today. I put my card in Ely Nextel says it is blocked by the menu press' Network entry code or make emergency calls. Press menu allows you to put in an 8-digit code in a box labeled 'Enter Special Code'. If you put the wrong code 3 times it appears with an error message that says something like "penalty Grants, please wait". This completely blocks the phone for about 3 hours. (I know this b / c Alza initially insisted that the unlock code was 8 zeros) I have been on the phone for over 5 hours now Nextel, Boost, and Motorola, everyone seems to point the finger elsewhere, but it takes quite subsidy unlock code for your i1 to free up network impetus to allow the use of Nextel card in it. Motorola says it's installed Boost code, which does not have knowledge of a bypass, Sprint says the same. Alza was the toughest nut to crack b / c their customer service may be the dumbest people I've talked until I finally got a supervisor, who says he understands what I'm exatcly speaking, and "although Boost is the business of releasing their phones to be used by other airlines, which would give a code if they were persistent, however, have no codes so far for this phone, you are the first to call even one to my knowledge, I do not know or where to transfer to try to locate one. " Again, a card will not work on Nextel i1 up without an unlock code that does not seem to exist, however, unless you have a website do that is what I am in the process of doing now Later that afternoon, I was never able to get it done through phone calls, but I found a guy on eBay, $ 20, I figured I'd give it a shot. PM me if you want the information from the company I used ebay, I do not want to give here, I do not know if that is allowed. You may have to call nextel when you have finished having to register the phone's IMEI number to your account. I do not know for sure, but Sprint did one time when I was on the phone with them throughout the course of yesterday, so I do not know if you instantly Nextel hire unless you do.] [/ quote

I tried searching for info about this phone in particular, but can anyone confirm that a Nextel sim card will/will not work with a Boost Mobile Motorola i1?

I have heard conflicting things from both Motorola and Sprint/Nextel and was hoping for some actual feedback.
Thanks, I am going to post this in the Boost forum area too, maybe those users know something too.

I am curious b/c the phone is already out for Boost, but my Nextel rep tells me it won't be out for Nextel until the 27th of July, and when it comes out, it will cost at least $100 more than the phone currently costs from Boost. (No contract extension price). Motorola sales rep says they are EXACTLY the same phone and was certain that a Nextel card would work in a Boost phone, but I wanted concrete evidence before I buy.
