Unlocking
All phones have something called a codeplug, that is a firmware program that runs when you turn on the phone. It identifies the phone, type of service and allows it to log onto the nextel network as you and your account. This file can be read on the phone with the RSS software which can also read and save your sim card and phone directory.
The codeplug can be modified to access the other systems like boost. Someone here often offers to modifiy your codeplug for you if you will download it yourself and send it to them. I'm afraid I don't know enough about this to tell you if this is safe. It could possibly be used for illegal purposes, like stealing you phone number and putting it on other phones, but I'm not sure about that.
