How many of you would really love NEXTEL to just give us cool phones without the damn "direct connect" - which in my opinion is perhaps the most annoying and useless technology ever devised.
I never use direct connect because I have unlimited calling. I can't stand the lousy radio feature - do you feel the same way?
Maybe they could offer bluetooth instead of the radio feature?
Let me know! Let Nextel know! - Let us use phones on the NEXTEL network that are not wired in to the useless radio feature.
Give us an option!!! Why can't you carry phones with the radio as well as phones without the radio?
You know they read these boards, so pipe up and let them hear your opinion!

Well, not to piss you off,but whats wrong with DC???
It's convenient,cheap,simple,etc...
How exactly is it "annoying"???
And they're already coming out with Bluetooth enabled phone(s).
I have no problems with the DC feature, after all,its what Nextel is known for,and I dont think they're gonna be changing it anytime soon.
No offense.

I average 700 minutes a month on direct connect alone. Everyone I know has Nextel so it's much more effecient to use this instead of anytime minutes. It's annoying when people leave the DC speaker on and they have a loud conversation that everyone can hear. I'm thinking that's what you meant. That's called poor Nextel Direct Connect edicate. It's a amazing how many people do not know to hit that little button on top of the phone so the earpiece is used.

Nextel is always a few years begind the pack. They live off of their DC for big companies (ie: cable, gas & electric, Telephone, etc...)

Let Me Clarify... "Doesn't NEXTEL Market Themselves As The Company For Business?"
Let me clarify "Annoying" on the DC - I'm talking about the fact that the radio feature is not full-duplex and therefore you cannot have a normal conversation like on the telephone.
My biggest issue is that NEXTEL has been years behind other carriers with phone technology - they are just coming out with a picture phone and maybe a PDA phone..... That doesn't even have Bluetooth!
Doesn't NEXTEL market themselves as the company for getting "Business DONE!"???
I believe this several year lagg in phone technology is caused because they have to wait on Motorola to modify the phones to include the DC feature. We also lose because once the phones do come out they are much larger (HUGE) than just about any phone on the market!
I believe that NEXTEL assumes people wouldn't want to buy phones without the DC feature - and I just think that is wrong.

Anyways, you have a small point here.
Nextel is desiged strictly for business. I dont see many execs taking pictures and sending them to their buddies.Nor do I see them playing games all day.
Nextel has had cameras for the i95 for a long time, which retails for around 20 bucks on ebay these days. They had it as an option.
There hasnt really been a "Lag" in technology, they've just simply sticked to the needs a businesses. If there was a lag,I would say maybe a few months at most.
Maybe in the past, their phones were larger when compared to other, but thats because they still needed to perfect the DC feature.Making it smaller, and more efficient takes time.Just look at some of the phones they have now,i730,i830,i860,their not as huge as their first "Rugged" phones such as the i50.
And why would you want to have a "Normal" Conversation on DC when you can simply call the person. You have to remember that the Direct Connect feature was designed to be instant.

One thing you seem not to think of or maybe you do not use it, but the internet is run off the radio band, hence you do not use your mins for internet usage, witch is a key issue. It makes life so easy to be able to check email from anywhere.
Also the DC is great you know if the person you need to talk to got you or not. Im my line of work getting to know right away if my guys are doing what needs to be is huge, so much better that leaving a vm. So if you do not use it that is your problem, and to be honest if you are not a fan you do have a choise to leave nextel when youe contract is up. Remember you chose to get nextel you were not forced to."I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me."-Hunter S. Thompson

Just one more comment on my end...
If they offered non-DC phones, then what the hell would nextel be?
It would be like having verizon,or some other carrier. So instead of ranting, get another carrier. Right?

This thread is the stupidest thing I've ever read, EVER! If it wasn't for the DC feature, Nextel would have no customers, they're too expensive for their plans. It would be stupid to pay that much for that few minutes and not have a radio. Just cause you don't like the phones themselves.... Deal with it, millions upon millions of people do every day. Go ahead write extel and tell them to offer only phones, no radio (which is the whole point of their company) and I'm sure they'll get right on that!
Pay your bills or I just may be coming to repo your car!

Instead of *****ing about your NEXTEL why don't you check out these links for a solution. NEXTEL's aren't right for all people. I'm happy with all of the features, phones, and services NEXTEL offers, which is why I continue to shell out $62.15 a month to them.
