most people use cool edit pro to make the necessary changes to the wav file so that i can be recongnized by your phone. then you simply use windows sound recorder to pick the 10-15 sec clip of the song you want as the ringer

to make your own ringtones simply edit a sound file and then convert it.

to edit sound files I use Acoustic Labs Mixer. no particular reason, it's just easy and fairly cheap but full fuctioned. you can edit mp3s, .wav files, whatever.

to convert the file I use dBpowerAMP. it's free and works great. I convert the ringtones to mp3s, 32bits, mono, 8000Hz.

that should be all you need. any other questions email me a [email protected]

Looks like you need to make a midi 0 file. Then the phone will its internal synthesizer to play it back. It will sound like those kiddie keyboards.

Better way would be to sequence the song. plug keyboard in the Line or mic input of your computer. Record it, Edit it. convert it to mp3 or wave ring tone.

I use SawPlus32 to edit music - will that still work to make ringtones if I get the program to convert them? I have the nextel i860 - do I have to have some cord for my computer once all my mixing is complete on the computer to get it to my phone?

    Thanks -

    Error messages

Great, I did everything in the instructions,
but, I keep getting "General Connection Error"
check connection...bla bla bla..." and that is
AFTER, thats right After I connect to phone,
set Baud rate to 19200 on my phone, and
it reaches 100% loading of the song.........
then it pauses, and the error pops up!!!!
The 10th try on the third day, one transfer
actualy worked and I set it as a ring tone,
but not since then... W.T.F.!!!!! Same error.
I attached a copy of the 19sec ring tone.

Also, is there an updated version of
WebJAL out there or an updated
patcher. I'm using ver R01.01.03 with
    Teknidude's WebJAL patcher v2.2.

    Never mind

After some experimenting I realized that
you must have the right combination of
8000khz, 8bit Mono, PCM format for .wav
or Midi Type 0 Format for .mid and the
clip can't be more than 19 or 20 seconds.

Re: How Do I Make My Own Ring Tones???

if you want to create your OWN ringtones there is a solution on the way
a new music app -watch the developers project!

    kthpainsidan.se/blog7/?lang=english

This new app is developed as part of a degree project on the Nokia 5800!
(but will work and can be ported to other platforms)
