newbie...need advice here !!!!

i just bought a new boost mobile i835 cell. it was suppost to be unlocked for nextel, but when i put my sims card in, it asks me for a code ? how can i obtain this code and can it be done without buying a cable for it ? how much will it cost, or can any of you guys help me out ?
