I finally got rid of nextel but I still want to use my phone. Can I purchase a SIM from another provider and use it in my nextel phone? I am even willing to buy the cheapy phone to get the SIM card out. What do you think? I just want to pay as I go and not be under any monthly contract. And I do not want BOOST. Thanks!

well, nextel phones work with the iDEN network, so your choices are limited to Nextel, Boost, Southernlinc, Telus(Canada). GSM or CDMA sims will not work in Nextel phones.
if you do alot of wireless web surfing and text messaging, get Boost. With Boost its unlimited web surfing and unlimited text messaging

In other words, you cannot use a GSM sim in a iDEN phone. If you want pay as you go, you have to get Boost.

Well you are stuck on Nextel or Boost.. Sell the phone!!!!
I know you said you didn't want Boost but you might have a friend who does. Boost did bring back the starter kit. $39 comes with a sim and $10 of airtime or buy the i215 for $59.99 if you can find it. It was discontinued.

I guess that is why he fired Nextel because that's what nextel's 2-way sounds like!
