I870 not showing mp3 files in the mp3 player

I found that the i870 mp3 player has the same stupid problem as loading ringtones in webjal or myjal.

The i870 does not support mp3 files with the long names. They just do not show up. You must rename the file to under 12 characters.

I know what the next post will be.... so here is the answer:

from windows right click the file. Yes RIGHT click NOT left click. Then choose rename. Type in the new short name. It doesn't matter what you call it. Then press enter. It is now renamed.

I didnt want to make a new post about the same phone. I heard that the i780 doesn't have voice recorder, video recorder and play back or is airplane mode capable. Not that any of these features matter, just curious of what was taken out to add the 1.3 cam!

so yea, it does video. i cant wait to get mine, are you sure thats how you add mp3's? doesnt it come with software so that you can load it with? i would figure nextel would do something simular to the way cingular did their MP3 phone with the itunes.

no, no software it comes with a usb drive. drag them over to the drive. but you have to shorten the names of the songs for them to show up in the mp3 player.

Thats the same way I add music to my i930. Just drag it over to the right folder and open it via WMP. There is no special software for adding mp3's to ur phone. I don't know why you have to shorten the file name. To my knowledge i930 users do not have to shorten file names.

do you think that it would work in BMW's? Can you use MP3's from your computer as ring tones?

the 605 was wierd with the bluetooth? It was picky.

It loads ringtones just like the i860. So the answer is yes and no. Yes it does mp3 ringtones but no you can't just drag them over. They still need to be formated.

I went to get some info on the i870 tonite....they want 300 with a trade in plus tax and the activation fee plus 70 for the bluetooth headset. Here's the other option, I could just pay 100 bucks and get a new i860...what should I do? BTW, he has 5 i930's in the box!!!!!!!!!!! He claims they are the only 5 left in the country....500 and its yours!

HEADS UP!!! I got the mot brand stereo headsets in... A MUST HAVE!! I love them.
They have ptt and mic built in so you can use them for the mp3 in stereo and walkie talkie and cellular.. The cellular comes through both earbuds.. They are also loud. It is a different jack on it. So that is why my other headsets came through mono. This headset will work only with the i930 and i870. I haven't seen them on Nextel.com or moto's site yet. They all have the stereo mixing jack which is not the same. That is the one with the 2 jacks.

These will/should retail at $29 w/o ptt and $34 with ptt. I should have them on my site this weekend for $14... I did not get a lot in so I will be back ordering them next week. .
