Okay, when I signed up for Nextel service, I was told that the $10 data package included unlimited IM. Turns out, the literature and the adivce I was given by the Nextel rep was wrong and I wound up with over 3,000 text messages within 2 weeks. When I explained that I using a Java prgram (that I downloaded from the Nextel site!), they said that that program was the reason. I stopped using it and stuck with the WAP (crappy) version of the messengers.
I came into a store today and found out from a rep that I get free OUTGOING IMs, but I have to pay $.10 per message recieved. This is NOT what I was told and it's not what is said in the brouchures and on their websites.
Please tell me I'm not the only sucker that fell for this.

That doesn't sound right, I've used that plan before and the AOL IM is unlimited use. I don't know about the others, but AIM is unlimited use for IMing. That's Bull****.
Plan: Power Pack 450

the problem was you forwarded your aim to your mobile device and it came in as text messages. this is not the proper way to use AIM on your phone. You are supposed to go to log in on your phone and new messages will come in as net alerts not text messages. the nextel rep was not wrong you just did not follow directions of how to use it. the $10 plan does not include unlimited text messages. explain this to nextel and they will credit some of the messages.

Actually I did sign on straight from my phone (since I can't access AIM on my computer anymore...long story). I did get the net alerts that you're talking about as well. And yes, in all the brochures and online, it states that the $10 does include it.
Either way, I talked to Netxel; they're reversing the charges. Why? Because the guy who activiated my phone had, for some odd reason, assigned it an IP. Long story short, everything's fixed now.
