Here is the deal. I bought a USB cable for my i860. I got it with a combo with 2 CD's full of games/ringtones/wallpapers blah blah blah. Anyways, the cd's also come with webjal uploader. Here is the problem. I'm able to upload any mp3 or wav or midi ringtone from the CD's that I got with the USB with no problems. Now, when I make my own ringtones from mp3's or wav files and try to upload them to my phone via webjal i get the stupid communication error at the very end of upload. It is not a bad cable or anything because once again as soon as I upload any ringtone from the CD's it goes thru with no errors. What the hell am I doing wrong? I use magix ringtone maker to create my own ringtones. no luck. I also used the dbpower amp music converter to make ringtones. no luck. I compare the ringtones i make with the ringtones on the CD's that came with the USB cable and they are the same format, bits rates, channels, mono, same compression but still get the communication error at the very end of upload when I try to upload my own ringtones. Anyone know what I'm missing or if anyone have any suggestions, please let me know. THANKS ALL.

I figured that out too. Unfortunately you can't put mp3 ringtones on the i860. Only .wav files. So make your ringtones and save them as a .wav file, not an .mp3 file. Keep the same settings for the other stuff like... mono, 8-bit, 8,000hz frequency.
I've done this and it works great. I make my own custom ringtones all the time, almost 100 using these settings.Plan: Power Pack 450

Are you sure you can't upload mp3's to i860? I tried both mp3 and wav ringtones either way...wav ringtones won't upload as well. However, I'm able to upload both mp3 and wav files from the two CD's I got with the USB cable.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!. Searched the internet and found out you can upload mp3 ringtones to i860...just gotta have the correct settings on the mp3 maker/converter. I use magix ringtone maker to create 10-15 second ringtone and save it in wav format. then I use dbpower AMP music converter to convert it to mp3 file with correct settings which are 48kbs, 8000Hz, MONO FORMAT, ID TAGS HAVE TO BE BLANK meaning don't save/reserve tags when converting to mp3 file. After that use webjal to upload and it works like a charm.

But does it change the audio quality of the ringtone coming out of the speaker on the i860? That's what I wanna know. If it doesn't then it's not worth it to me. My impression is that the speaker can only handle the .wav file ringtones and that quality, 8,000hz, 8-bit, mono.

Ok, that answers my question. Then my .wav file ringtones are the best quality ringtone I can get, I won't bother with trying to get the MP3 ones on my i860. I'm happy with them, just wondered if the MP3 were any better and worth it.
I know it's only a cell phone, haha, not expecting CD quality sounding ringtones. But lets make it clear that .wav file ringtones are as good as it gets with audio quality of ringtones on nextel phones.Plan: Power Pack 450

when i put mp3 ringers on my i870
they are always a lot lower in volume than .WAV ringers.
If i increase the volume while im editing it in Adobe Audition 1.5
Than it starts soundin like garbage
I agree that the .wav files are much better
