Can anyone give me some feedback on what they've experienced with their Nextel service since the merge with Sprint?
Has it gotten better, worse, stayed about the same?
Thank you...

Re: Nextel : good or bad?
Thanks Aepple. I actually did read this, where do you live? I just read a newspaper article this morning that said the Boost Network is contributing hugely to the problems Nextel users are having. Executives at Sprint intend on coming up with a plan to reduce Boost somehow, to let iDEN focus more on Nextel users.
I'm going to research this further and also check on the status of the new phones Motorola is developing that will utilize both iDEN (for PTT) and CDMA (for phone and data).
We'll see what happens I guess...

Re: Nextel : good or bad?
My brother-in-law is the only person I really know with Nextel, and my roommate uses a Boost phone. They've both said that here in Jacksonville, the reception has slightly improved recently after being somewhat undependable for a while. I can't speak from personal experience, but I'm talking about a guy that uses several thousand minutes a month and he says it's gotten (a little) better here. That might not be true of other places but take it for what it's worth...

Re: Nextel : good or bad?
Thanks Brad. I've read some of your 'stuff' and actually replied to one of your Nextel comments, previously; very informative.
The Boost thing is definitely affecting Nextel's ability to perform, or non-perform.
The amazing thing about Florida too, is that if you look on Nextel's coverage map, it seems like it has more Nextel coverage than just about any other state in the country.
I'm going to look into this some more...any input anyone has is hugely welcome and appreciated!!

Of course, Boost Mobile's growing customer base isn't helping the iDEN network any because of their consumption of bandwidth. An article was published about this. [External Link To Article]

Re: Nextel : good or bad?
Ive had nextel for about eight years and its gotten a little worse over the years but i still think its better than the alternatives especially if you own a business.

Thanks Joe. What part of the country are you in? I like the durable phones and the options to customize your plan(s). Paying a little more to have your nights start 2 or 3 hours earlier is pretty cool too.
I like the new i580, but am also looking into the dual phones the FCC just cleared that will do phone/date on the cdma side and the direct-connect on iDEN. The two-way is definitely key, both from an instantaneous aspect and keeping your peak minutes down.

Re: Nextel : good or bad?
I live in Birmingham, Alabama. Everyone i know has nextel so i mainly use dc\gc for the business. I've got 18 phones and the 530 is what my drivers carry real durable plus they had a deal when i got them $4.99 each at the time i upgraded. Before that is was all i58sr. All my phones have the 300min plan with free incoming i pay the base bill and if one of the them goes over it comes out of their check.

Re: Nextel : good or bad?
I'm with you on the durable phones. We use the 530s at work for our courier service and they are solid as a rock. That's why the 580 really appeals to me, and I'm not really into the trendy, bling phones. I've dropped my phone enough times, and it seems every time I do, it stays mad at me a little longer than the time before.
I like the fact that they put the speakers in the front part of the phone again, instead of the back like they have been doing.

Re: Nextel : good or bad?
I had it for about two years. I finally drop it to many times i guess. It just shows a blank screen and nothing works.

Re: Nextel : good or bad?
Funny you should ask about a broken phone. I dropped my work 530 on my desk (squarely right where the rubber flap goes over the charging port) and now for some reason it won't power back on.
I tried taking out the battery but couldn't get it out. I'm going to have it looked at tomorrow. Anyone got any ideas what it could be? It didn't fall far but it was 'dbo' that part of the phone.
