#1 | | Newbie | Good Morning everyone.....This is my 1st post so please please bear with me. (BTW, I did read alot of the stickies, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for)
My phone was shut off for a few days, when I went to turn it back on, my screen was white and this is what it says:
FLASHStrap
FS5Bv00.17 HAB PRD
WS256N- ROMD
Signature Bad
Ready To Program
Connect USB or
RS232 data cable
UID7-UID1:
0000 1720 2B1F 5330
4446 3134 5135
Someone please tell what what all this means...Is my phone totally trashed or can it be saved?? BTW... I lost my sim card (I have another one) but If my phone can be saved, will I lose my phone numbers?? (Oh I hope not)
Thanks in advance to all the help and suggestions!!

by pumbaa, Put the phone back in flash trap and run the GPS upgrade
| Flashtrap:
Turn the phone off then hold down the two soft keys.
keep holding them while you power it on.
Connect to PC and run GPS uprgade or reload origional cp. You will need your origional code plug , a USB data cable, and RSS.

#3 | | Newbie | Camstuf thanks for replying, As I stated in my 1st post I did alot of searching, but I couldn't come up with anything that seemed to fit my situation. I admit I'm clueless when It comes to cell phone technology. I've been told one mistake I could permanently mess up my phone so i wanted to be sure I have the right info before starting this.....
1. I just bought my USB cable (comp sees it)
2. Now I'm DL'ing the carrier rss
am I on the right track? i'm sorry to be a bother, but I really need my phone working

So in my search, I too am learning about this issue.
Let me know what happens. | Flashtrap mode is the programming mode for nextel phones. Normally this mode is engaged through Carrier RSS or some other program. But...I think...I remember reading somewhere that you can manually put your phone in this mode by pressing a sequence of keys on your phone while powering on the phone. This is not recommended, so carefull what buttons you push while powering on your phone.
@qumara...Glad you got your phone working. If you didn't want to upgrade, I think if you removed your battery and put it back in, this might have solved your problem. I'm glad you asked around though before attempting anything. You were told right. Messing with codeplugs and your phone in flashtrap can turn your phone into an expensive paperweight.

#12 | | Junior Member | I have seen several things cause the phone to act this way, more often then not people download software they have no business with and play with things they do not know about and mess up the phone. But as of late I have seen almost as many phones doing this just from being dropped.
Most of the connectors inside the phone use a self locking system that is very weak and often the shock of an impact will cause the conector to loose connection for a second but long enough to cause an interenal software error that can only be fixed with a software reload. If your phone is working now and no other problems occur you should be fine if not take it into a service center.

#13 | | Newbie | So the only way to fix the white screen is to reload the software to the phone? Where can I get the software and cables?????

Just a standard nextel data cable is needed. You could prob click an ad any where on this page, i think they have an accessory store here, ebay, or I have them on site. I do also have a flash cable for those tougher phones to program. I would say it works 99% of the time where a normal cable works 75% of the time. The flash cable is a great deal more money.
The software is free go to www.mot.com/iden click support then pc software. software updates and then the model.
I suggest charging the battery up on a functioning phone or using a fully charged battery. the update takes about 20 mins. You WILL loose all personal stuff like pics and ringtones. The sim card and your contacts SHOULD be ok but I would say 5% of the updates I do the phone book gets whipped out. I am not sure if the phone did it prior or if the update does it. I back up the sim or put another sim in the phone.
The update may require you to disable the usb mode in settings under memcard to complete the update. It will begin failing to comunicate with the phone. disable and continue. It should work. Some times flashtrap mode is required.
A h2o or crushed phone doing this will only continue to fail. If you get it running it will crash again and again and again.....

#15 | | Newbie | any time you do anything with software you should remove the memory card from the phone so it doesn't sync to the computer and throw you off..
