iTunes not recognizing i880 phone

I just bought a new i880 phone last week and I'm trying to get music onto it from my iTunes. I'm using an iMac with the 10.5.6 OS and the up to date 8.0.2 version of iTunes. I followed the instructions from the phone on installing the memory card and connecting the USB cable but when I turn on iTunes it's not appearing in my iTunes and I'm not getting any icons or options to select from. How do I get iTunes to recognize my phone?

I can't do the "quote" thing because I don't have 20 posts yet. But another dumb question. That all looks like it's for Windows from what I've seen. Any way to do it on my Mac?

A USB card reader should work on any PC.
If not, get a MAC USB card reader.

i actually dont think this would work, the phone works as an external device while the itunes only transmits to apple products
