Using a Nextel Phone with Boost Service...

I know, this probably is a FAQ. I'm sort of under the impression, though, that only the older nextel phones work. If I buy a newer nextel phone, such as the Rumor, Katana, or the Rant, would I be able to take the boost sims card, and put it in one of these phones?

Also, can I just get a sims card with boost service, without having to buy one of their phones?

Nextel and Boost use IDEN phones.
As long as you have an IDEN phone the sim should work.

Are nextel and sprint the same provider? I search for nextel phones, and sprint phones come up. Are these the same?

They merged some time ago.

In a sense they are only "Kind of" the same company.

Operations between Nextel and Sprint haven't been combined. They even, in some parts of the country, have separate customer service departments for each (Sprint Customers vs. Nextel Customers).

The coverage area isn't combined.

They have the same CEO, so therefore it's one company.

You cannot use a Sprint phone with Nextel and you can't do it the other way either.
