i870 media formating issue

I am trying to format my i870 micro SD card (The card is a Scan Disk 4 GB wake up your phone).I go to the main menu/advanced settings/memory card then once I do that the only 2 options I have are store media and help.The store media option has on phone and prefer on card and the help option says file names should be max 32 characters ect....... Why wont it let me format the card and yes the card is in the phone.I gave the owners manual to my mother when I gave her the phone after I switched to Verizon.My contract was up with verizon and after paying them $125 a month for 2 years I switched to the Boost Mobile $50 no contract unlimited phone minutes/2 way/internet.I am now free from the stranglehold of contract and inflated pricing but would like to use the mp3 player.I had problems with it when I first got the phone and only made it work 1 time with the Scan Disk 32mb card it came with.It held like 3 songs worthless I tell ya.When I put that card in it has remove card/store media/format card/help.So I would assume its the new card that is the problem but it is the same brand and is packaged and sold for use with a cell phone says right on the micro adapter wake up your phone. (The card works in my digital camera and it does let me sync and store music files).Any suggestions as to why it no worky.I also tried to reformat my 32 MB card and add songs the titles were short with low birates and ony one of the 4 songs are recognized and playable WTH is going on? I need more than 1 song dagnabit
