Nokia 5140

I'm new to this forum and I'd like some advice on the Nokia 5140. I'm tired of having expensive phones that break I'd like a rugged phone that will last a while and keep up with my active lifestyle. All I really want is a phone that has text messages, a camera and that's about it
I've been looking at the 5140, but was wondering if there were any other good phones out there that fit my requirements

i use nokia 6600 good camera, video, and bluetooth phone.

I'm not familar with the Nokia 6600. Is that a durable outdoorsy phone?

basicly 5140 and 6600 are the same for some feature but 6600 have more feature than 5140. 6600 have bluetooth and tri band 900mhz 1800mhz 1900mhz which you can use in asia, europe, u.s. and canada any where in the world. 5140 have no bluetooth, the triband are 850mhz use in some parts of southern u.s 1800mhz europe 1900mhz u.s. and canada. basicly the 5140 will work only in europe, u.s, canada. 6600 is video phone which you can watch video on your phone and have mmc card. the price of this phone are not too expensive. check Nokia - Nokia on the Web for the picture of this phone or search nokia 6600.

There is a US version of the 5140, the 5140b, that uses 850Mhz. The 5140 is a series 40, while the 6600/6620 is a series 60 because it uses Symbian. They both run on different OS's.

The 5140(b) is a rare phone, so it's not really that cheap.

The 6620 is a very sturdy phone, but it's not really something that you would want to use on the outdoors. If you live in the US, you can try out the Nextel phones that Sprint carries. However, I'm not really privy to the Sprint Nextel network.

What about the Siemens M65, thats the type of outdoorsy rugged phone I'm looking at.

Yeah, outside of the usual Nextel phones, the Siemens M65 and the Nokia 5140 are the only ones that I know of are ruggedized. However, I'm not really a fan of Siemens alot. All of the phones that I used that were Siemens tend to act up, the UI wasn't to my liking, and support at the time wasn't that great. I would probably just stick with your 1st choice, the Nokia 5140...has FM radio, digital compass, and a flashlight (which is very useful).

The only thing I am uneasy about the 5140 is I have heard the screen is not too good.

The screen resolution isn't that bad, considering that you would be just using it outdoors. But if the screen will be a problem for you, you might want to consider the 5140i...better display, and it supports themes. If you can find a 5140i that uses 850/1800/1900 Mhz, you should be good to go.

I've seen afew 5140i's on e-bay, how can I tell if it is OK to use on the cingular network. So your also saying that the 5140i has a better screen than the 5140?
