big help nokia 6230b error

hi i own a nokia 6230b version. as i went over seas i asked a cellphone shop to add on an extra language to the cellphone. he told me come back later. none the less he did was he said he was going to do and mentioned that there might be something wrong with my phone being an American phone. i turned on the phone didnt really see anything wrong so i left. when i got back to america i noticed i am getting way less reception than i did before. i think i know why. i think they installed the version A on a version B phone making me get less reception.
problem is i call up nokia and they say it cost me 100 dollars to fix the problem and that aint including shipping. i was like omg
i need some help. please dont hold back on helping me im desperate to get this phone working.

you think this will fix the problem. will the usb data cable be able to flash the phone?

the freaking data cable didnt work. nokia software update says this phone is not yet supported. dont know what to say. i still need help here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
