Hi,
I came across this phone and I'm quite interested in buying it. However I can't find enough info on it so I was wondering if someone that owns/owned one could help me out a bit? thanks
How long can you play MP3's without recharging?
Is the MP3 quality good?
I read some reviews where there were certain users complaining that it broke real fast , buttons stopped functioning, screen stopped functioning etc, are you happy with the quality of your phone?
thanks

Re: Nokia 5300 Xpressmusic quality?
its billed as music phone so def. has good clean sound - the battery when you get down to it its a phone and not a mp3 player so for a music phone the battery is decent make sure to take it though a couple of full charge & drain cycles and it should be fine.
as for all the other problems you reported/asked about any phone can have those if its defective the best think to do when you get a phone it check out all its listed features and if you find anything defective exchange it right away. make sure to buy from a seller that has a decent return policy.

Re: Nokia 5300 Xpressmusic quality?
I've had this phone since February. I think its great, compact, unique, and relatively sturdy. The supplied headphones are weak so you'll likely have to use higher quality ones and carry the adapter around (which can be a pain).
I can go a day and half, to two days of regular usage - texting, music, phone calls per battery charge. I would imagine it can do at least 8 to 10 hours of audio playback. You can even play out of the supplied speaker if you want to use it as a mini ghetto blaster, a nice feature i find myself using in more and more situations. The speaker is actually pretty loud on max, enough to entertain a room. This drains the battery fast though, but you can still play in this stereo mode on max volume for about 2 hours.
The LCD screen is nice and sharp, photos are... well mobile quality.. which is mediocre but can be really good under certain conditions. Same with video.
Overall, I'm really happy with this phone - it serves as a well designed cellphone but doubles equally as a good music player and media platform. The software is easy to use, and I trust that it will have better support than my last Samsung mp3 phone - Nokia seems to use a unified system with the Nokia PC Suite. I think the biggest thing with this phone for me is that it "feels" like a multimedia device and not just a phone with a digi-cam slapped onto it.

P.S. ** Anyone who has this phone know how to put custom mp3 ringtones? My provider, Rogers Wireless has a lock on this - i know there are usually patches made for some models that can bypass this - let me know if you know of any **

Re: Nokia 5300 Xpressmusic quality?
Hey Joe,
My volume is really good actually, handset and speaker. Through the headphones, its decent but could be a bit louder.
If you are in the middle of a call, try hitting the "+" and "-" keys. It guages from 1 to 10, at 10, I can barely hold the phone to my ear cause it's so loud.
Same with speaker mode, pump it up to 10.
Hope this helps,
Jerry

Re: Nokia 5300 Xpressmusic quality?
did you try adjusting the volume while in a call? If not it was only on 10 for the ring volume.
I would have to agree that the phone is not for everyone, especially if you are looking for a very phone oriented handset or something minimalistic.

The Razor is much louder, and it's a great phone, but I don't love it like I love the 5300. I have til next Friday to make a final decision. I have the Razor now, but I may give the 5300 another chance.

Re: Nokia 5300 Xpressmusic quality?
Haha yeah there are a lot of phones that go to "11" compared to the 5300. My last phone was a 2001 model so its been a big upgrade.
Razors are ok but personally i don't like them and find them a bit overrated. A few of my friends have had them and they either broke in one form or another, or had average reception. The mobile techies say they have some web problems as well - although could be dependant on model variation or service provider. They are really nicely designed aesthetically though, but with some drawbacks imo.
