I need help w/my 3555...please

I have been searching for several hours now to get answers. I am hoping someone can help me here.
Yesterday my poor 6555 died and I upgraded to the 3555. I really don't like it so far. I charged the phone and with in 6 hours it was dead again. I made a 5 minute call and 4 texts. Is that normal now??

My old phone had a setting to where I can open the phone before answering it and be able to close it without hanging up on ppl using my ear piece. Now I can't figure out how to set it to where this one won't hang up when I close it. I am getting flustered with this. Can anyone help me on this one?? Please...or am I at a loss here??
