basic questions... new to this

I'm thinking of getting a Treo 680 or some PDA phone to handle scheduling and outlook.

But I don't want to sign up for a data plan with AT&T, since I just want to PDA features. So I'm wondering if the way around this is to buy a phone off of like Ebay? If I buy a phone off Ebay, how do I just swap my current Razr's SIM card into it, or do I have to get AT&T to activate it?

Also, what does "Unlocked" mean?

Thanks everyone

HI there.....
It is very simple.... You would just have to buy an Unlocked phone (unlocked means that the phone would be compatible with all GSM networks depending on the phones network specifications) then just put in your old sim card into your new phone, and your ready to go...

In regards to ebay>> please be carefull in choosing your cell phone company make sure that they have a physicall location and are verified by online merchants, is u ask for my best online company then it would be **************** they have unlocked phones with preety decent prices

Chow!!!!

To do this, all you need is what comes with any Treo:
The cable & palm desktop CD.
Hotsync Phone to Outlook on your PC.
No data plan required.

If you just want the smart phone, and don't want a data plan, you could get a Wi-FI card. That would allow you to just input your Outlook/Scheduling information and if you wanted to use the internet capabilities you could connect to Wireless Hotspots or other WiFI in your area (or out of town).

I can't enter links in my posts yet, so you'll have to copy and paste the information below to actually get to this site which will give you more information about the Treo's WiFI card.

Palm - Support - Palm Wi-Fi Card

Bummer:
Only compatible with...
Treo 700w
Treo 700wx
Tungsten E2, T3, T5
Zire 72

I just purchased 2 unlocked Palm Treo 680's off of ebay. The seller was wirelessofamerica, prices were very reasonable, and I had them 3 days. Don't have AT&T yet in Vt. but I have Unicel, so I put my Sim card in and they both worked fine.
