I just retired my iPhone 3G for a new Blackberry Bold 9700 and I am very happy with the choice I made. With no real improvements on the iPhone in 2009 and a bleak future for the device in 2010 (via rumors) I decided to make a switch to a more reputable device with a rich history and a bright future.

For the haters: I have everything Mac / Apple in my home since 2001 (before the BOOM of Apple products). From the MacBook Pro to a Timeport and Apple TV to an iMac. Until the iPhone can amaze me again with a physical keyboard and better call quality, I feel that I made the best choice for myself - and it syncs to my calendars, address book, mail client and music on iTunes seamlessly just like the iPhone.

I too have a BlackBerry Bold, own a slew of apple products (as well as stock). Can't wait to see what the 'droid/google does to push both RIM and Apple's development of their product line! The first time I used my wife's iPhone, it locked up on me while I was trying to make a phone call...

That being said, jailbreaking an iPhone (which I did for my Father-In-Law) makes it a much more useful tool -- Skype over the 3G network just works (he's got lots of family/friends still in the Philippines so being able to seamlessly flow from his computer to his cell phone is pretty important).

I was leaning toward the bold and after reading your comments... I'm going to get the 9700

FYI - If you are a Mac user, and are considering the BlackBerry Bold 9700 (or any BlackBerry for that matter), You do have to download the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to sync your new device. It's free from the BlackBerry App store. Once downloaded, your phone will restart, install Mac - BlackBerry software on to the phone, and auto sync itself to gather your contacts, email, calendars, music on iTunes, and notes. Out of the box it's set up for Windows. I do use a MobileMe account with Apple as well and I set up my email without having to sync it to my email server right at the store on the phone. It was so easy. The more I use this phone, the more I love it. And the call quality is EXCELLENT compared to the iPhone. I can even stay connected to the 3G network / have a voice conversation while I am in an elevator - try that with an iPhone.

I am glad I got a 9700 it was worth the wait. 3G is working well in the northern plain states.

Hey every body
iam using this hand set i well .
Fast, very good battery life, clean interface, great messaging capabilities, physical keyboard, a 3G BlackBerry for T-Mobile (finally!), trackpad a great upgrade over trackball, GPS works well, great as a phone (most important)

Cons: Web browser (see below), smallish screen (but nice nonetheless), keyboard not as good as Curve, lack of apps compared to Android options

Summary: I really needed a new phone and was seriously shopping for one of the new Android phones, but all of them had at least one fatal flaw:

Droid: flat keyboard was hard to use, not a world phone
Hero: no keyboard, trackball (re: gunk)
Moment: bulky, poor battery life, keyboard .

I'm really considering the Bold 9700 and am glad to hear that it is a great phone, just wondering how the apps are though, any input would be appreciated.

Yes spammers do suck, however it's a good thing there are people like you policing the internet, keep up the good work!

All kidding aside, I'm aware that apps are available, however my question should have been more clear, how is the quality/usability compared to the iphone, I've seen a bunch on friends iphones and they are just endless, some good some bad some useless, but I don't really know anyone with a BlackBerry, so it would be nice to get some actual input rather than a warning from the internet police.

I was not "policing" or "warning" anyone.

Simply lamenting that I had to break up a URL to impart information due to my low post count.

Spammers caused the "must have X posts to insert a URL" rule, so they SUCK.

hi i am actually thinking what phone to buy currently in my mind i am thinking of ipone 3GS and Bold 9700 but i still cant make up my mind as i really like both and i can only have either 1 of it .

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is east to typing . But monitor not big.

basically all blackbeery phones are outstanding phone in our local market . Now a days you can fing there are millions of people using blackberry phones. And this blackberry Bold 9700 is most popular from all other phones in Blackberry this phone has a dynamic touch pad and keypad if a person is business man this phone is best for them as they can type as fast they want as if i talk about these days there are many people who love to write with the keypad which is allot different i mean each and every alphabet is at there place. Ivn touch screen phone you can type easily but some people are not very good in this for those this phone is perfect. And now lets talk about youngster they love chatting through phone and they want their must be comfortable for them to write a message.

The right-hand side of the phone holds the rubberised keys, which function as the up/down volume buttons and also as music navigation buttons for the media player. A similar rubberised option is further down the side, which functions as the camera shutter key.
Have the old BOLD 8900 like it for the push mail only and the easy keyboard. Looking to update to 3G for the speed. Considering the 9700 BUT How can this be a true 3G phone if there is no camera infront to do video calls? At least it seems that way.
