Did the cops ask for it? Or did the city just give it to them? Did the
public ask for it? Someone voted it in, someone is paying for it.

So if you the taxpayer do not like what you are paying for, send that to
your mayor or comissioner. Better yet if it is that much of a deal to
you, then run for the office in charge of voting that issue in or out.

The newsgroup is no place to vent such a frustration about cops getting
    free cell phones.

However, I will agree with you on three aspects. First, no it doesn't
get cheaper than free. Taxpayers, shouldn't have to fund a cell phone
that is used for all personal use among government officials. Thirdly,
most individuals regardless of their occupation shouldn't receive a
break for individual cell phones. This would make it a fair playing
    field for all.

Only organizations that bring service in by the bulk should be eligible
for discounts. Why orgs? The people work for them and when they cut cost
they cut less jobs. Thereby, you pay more taxes because you keep your
job, you make more, and you benenfit all in the economy of humanity.

    Does Cingular offer this discount?

    Hi all,

I'm a Sprint PCS customer and Sprint offers various discounts for various
professions, employers, etc. One particular discount that they supposedly
give is 25% off your monthly bill to people in Law Enforcement. I have a
friend who is a Cingular subscriber and a police officer. I was wondering
if Cingular offers any similar discount?

    Thanks,

    Mark L.

Re: Does Cingular offer this discount?

Hey, that comment was a little off base. Keep in mind everyone wants
everything for as low as cost as they possibly can without sacrificing
quality. What do you do for a living? Wouldn't you like to save a little
money now and then? Someone always has a smart remark for everything.
Yes, there are those people that don't like to pay for anything.
However, just because he is a cop doesn't mean that he is that type of
person. He might have a wife, a couple of kids, a car payment, and a
mortgage payment. There is more to life than just paying for a cell phone.

If Cingular ever offers a smart remark discount don't call them to add
it to your account. I would hate for you to have a discount to save you
a little money because you wouldn't want your service for nothing now
    would you!

The man just asked a simple question, and what does he get, a smart answer.

Mark L. the best recommendation for you if someone does not respond
appropriately to you by the time you get this message, is to save
yourself from people like this and call 866.CINGULAR or stop by a
    Cingular store and ask.

    That's the truth.

I'm wondering if this thread wasn't jumpt started by another one on the
forums at slickdeals? Hell I was wondering if there wasn't a way for me
to take advantage and get a better rate on my cell bill.

25%, now that is substantial. Matter of fact, unbelievable. Are you sure
it is 25%? If that is the case no wonder cell companies don't make any
money. Further, I would think 25% would be very attractive and everyone
would be with Sprint that would be eligible for such a discount. I would
    like confirmation on this rate?

I would think it would be more along the lines of 2.50% - 5.00%

Well, actually Paw-Paw, no cop was asking for anything. I'm not a cop. I'm
a PC salesman. I was asking out of my own curiosity and to help out a
friend. Don't act like you'd pass on a fat discount because others wouldn't
    get it.

So sign up with ATT QUICK before it starts using the name Cingular. That
way you will have the discount AND be a Cingular customer. Oh, and you'll
be using the discount on the SAME NETWORK, as ATT and Cingular use the same
    towers. -Dave
