MMC reader or Bluetooth Dongle?

Hi guys,

while waiting for my 6230 to be delivered I've been thinking about the best
way of getting my MP3's on to my phone. I don't particularly like the idea
of having to take my phone apart every time I want to transfer files. Is
anyone here using Bluetooth with their 6230 and if so how is it performing?

Already copying mp3 files to card, best bet is via card reader/write, its
fast and relaible. not that difficult to swap mmc card in/out. ps got 512mb
card working ok

Ah! Now I understand the previous posts that I read. The acronym BT was
confusing the hell out of me. Just realised it means Bluetooth and not the
usual BT. Things suddenly make a lot more sense now

I'm not too worried about speed but out of interest, what kind of difference
are we talking?

I don't have a cable, so my only option to copy files is via bluetooth. A
3.5Mb MP3 file takes ~30 seconds to transfer. BT can be a little unreliable,
but I have only had problems when the phone is a fair distance away
(downstairs) if the phone is next to the computer, works fine.

If you were going have a large memory card and upload different files a lot
then a card writer (or a cable) would probably be the prefered option. If
you are going to transfer file less often, and don't mind waiting for a
while I would try Bluetooth. A BT dongle will let you do things that a
memorycard won't (eg back up the contents of your phone to your PC,
synchronise your contacts, create and maintain playlists on your phone...)

dont have the figures, but trust me, a LOT.
i estimate a 1meg file would take a good minute via bt, and a couple of
seconds via a card reader.
becomes a real real big problem when you wanna throw whole albums onto your
shiny new 512 meg card...

Ah yeah I was looking at them. Apparently their 1gb card works fine too )

well, i do not agree with you on bt speed, i do get transfer speeds up
to 5 megs/min. yes, card reader is faster, but i don't like to switch
my phone on and off constantly just to put 2 new songs. btw, i've seen
in stores brand new 1 gig mmc. It's not in sale yet, but salesman told
me it will be around 200 us$... xpensive...

Get both, they're relatively cheap and each have their uses:

BT for backup and modem use, MMC reader to transfer pictures or mp3s either
way in bulk.

according to the nokia site, the phone allows up to a 256mb mmc

some people i see are having troubles with mmc's above 256mb unless the
firmware is upgraded?

as for even finding the firmware & doing it myself, hah...the internet
aint exactly getting any better to search for things

i managed to however get a data cable & some decent software to reset my
8250 though

i guess the easiest option is to go into a nokia care center & ask them
to upgrade the firmware, seeing as how im paying insurance every month
on the phone with the contract

has got nothing to do with insurance.
