The HTC One X has been a great success ever since it has hit the market and for good reasons. I myself have bought one and I love it, however I am also aware of the fact that it comes with its fair share of flaws. One of the biggest problems with the One X is the fact that even on the international version that runs on Tegra 3, lag and animation choppiness is present everywhere.

The fact that HTC decided to do exactly the opposite of what Samsung did with their TouchWiz UX and removed some of the unnecessary features and bloatware with Sense 4 helped to reduce the lag but not by too much. In fact, HTC did a great job of toning down HTC Sense and managed to beautifully integrate it into ICS, but things are still far from being perfect and the lag unfortunately persists. So what's the solution?

We've lately seen Jelly Bean ROMs like CyanogenMod 10 running on the HTC One X and it is blazing fast, but is HTC going to improve things so we won't need to root our phones?

Well, as it turns out HTC does intend to make things better because a leaked Sense 4.1 RON has surfaced on XDA-Developers, proof that the manufacturer is indeed working on solving these problems. The guys who managed to install this leaked version have ran some tests on it and have reported a Quadrant score of almost 6000. That's an increase in score of more than 800 when compared to Sense 4.0.

The good news does not stop here because a larger list of fixes comes along with Sense 4.1 including:

  • Removal of live wallpaper lag

  • The addition of a dedicated button on the camera app that allows the user to switch between front/back cameras without the having to access additional menus

  • A dedicated button to switch between tabs in a folder has also been added

  • The ability to remap the "recent apps" button in order to open the menu, thus removing the controversial on-screen menu bar

  • Wi-Fi dropping has been fixed

  • Battery life has been increased to 5+ hours screen-on time from 3+ hours

  • 3D effects have been removed from the launcher to tremendously cut down the lag

  • Last but not least, it's based on Android 4.0.4 and it comes with a blazing fast kernel

That pretty much sums it all up. It really seems like a huge improvement over Sense 4.0 so in case you want to give it a try and get your fingers dirty, head down to XDA-Forums and follow their instructions, just remember that this only works on the international version. In case you don't want to root your phone however, you'd better wait for the official release. Let's hope it will happen soon.
