LG, the "Life is Good" company is putting out some "super" phones to compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy SIII and the HTC One X. They broke new ground with the LTE2, putting two gigabytes of RAM into that handset. Now they are pressing on with this one, bearing the "Eclipse" moniker.

The official name of this new smartphone flagship is the "LG Eclipse 4G LTE". The pictures of the device online are disappointing. So far they only show the back cover of the handset. But the same two gigabytes of RAM is scheduled to come installed in this model as in the LTE2. The front of the smartphone is going to have a large screen. It will be sporting 4.67 inches of digital real estate, nearly as large as the Samsung Note. The clarity of the screen will be the same to the human eye as the iPhone 4S. For those who like the numbers, that is 320 pixels per inch ( PPI ) for the Eclipse and 326 PPI for the iPhone 4S. It is not made with AMOLED but with LCD. The difference is that the LG Eclipse will have IPS for an easier view of the display from higher angles. Do not expect a manual keyboard with this device.

The processor is going to be a screamer in the LG Eclipse 4G LTE. It is the quad core 1.5 gigahertz "Krait" model from Qualcomm. It is the latest development in the line of Snapdragon chips from the Taiwan company. The chip will be accompanied by an Adreno 320 graphical processing unit. The camera will be a huge monster with 13 megapixels of power. There is no doubt that the smartphone will be able to take video at the upper high definition levels of 1080p. The quad core chip makes it sure. The handset will come with 16 gigabytes of internal memory with the flash card slot available for even more space.

The Wi-Fi capabilities of the LG Eclipse 4G LTE will be normal for an upper crust smartphone. It will have all the Wi-Fi modes available plus the Wi-Fi hotspot feature. Apparently Wi-Fi Direct and DLNA will not be a part of this super phone. The battery will be 2,100 mAh of power, which is small when you compare it to the Motorola Droid Maxx. It has 3,300 mAh of juice inside. The LTE bands of the Eclipse point to it showing up on the Sprint network. If it shows up there, it will be one of their top offerings. LG is not backing down in the smartphone technology wars as the Eclipse and the LTE2 handset show. There is no release date for the Eclipse, but it can be expected to be on shelves before the end of the year.
