WARNING! A master reset will restore all the original factor settings and will remove all personal data stored on the internal memory, including ringtones, images, downloaded content, contacts, apps etc. However, this process will not affect data stored on the SIM or SD cards

NOTE: Before master resetting your smartphone you may want to back up the data stored on it. Visit this link to learn how you can back up and restore your data.

Master Resetting via the Settings Menu:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Swipe to "Personal" and tap "Backup & reset"
  3. Scroll to "Personal Data" and tap "Factory data reset"
  4. Tap "Reset phone" > "Erase everything"

Master Resetting using Hardware Keys (Recovery Menu):

NOTE: In case the method above does not work for you (the smartphone might crash, freeze or otherwise prevent you from resetting from settings) then you can still reset your smartphone via the recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a series of key presses, as explained below:

  1. Turn off your smartphone
  2. Press and hold the "Volume up" and "Power" buttons at the same time
  3. Keep pressing the keys until a menu screen appears. Release the buttons at the menu
  4. Press "Volume down" to navigate to and highlight "Recovery"
  5. Press "Power" to select the option
  6. Navigate to "Wipe data / factory reset" using "Volume Down"
  7. Press "Power"
  8. Highlight "Yes -- delete all user data" using the volume rocker
  9. Press "Power" one last time and wait for your smartphone to reset and reboot in normal mode

Updating the Android OS:

NOTE: After you factory reset your smartphone, all previous software updates will be lost. As such, it's recommended that you perform a system update after the reset, as explained below:

  1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "System Updates"
  3. Press "Check for updates"
  4. If an update is available, follow the on-screen steps to download and install it on your phone
