Huawei announced two new handsets on April 6th as it seeks to compete in the high-end handset market: the Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Plus. The main talking point of these phones is the new camera setup. While dual camera offerings are nothing new, there's brand new camera tech, with two 'Leica-certified' 12MP cameras on the back of the phone. One camera shoots in color, while the other is designed solely for black and white pictures.

There are few differences between the two smartphones, namely battery, display size and type, as well as inbuilt storage and memory. While the Huawei P9 sports a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixel) IPS LCD display, the Huawei P9 Plus sports a 5.5-inch full-HD Super Amoled display and also incorporates Press Touch pressure-sensitive technology. The P9 will be available in both 3GB RAM/ 32GB inbuilt storage and 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variants, while the P9 Plus will only be available in the latter configuration. The P9 sports a 3000mAh battery, while the P9 Plus sports a 3400mAh battery.

As for the common specifications of the Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Plus: Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EMUI 4.1 on top; HiSilicon Kirin 955 SoC (4 Cortex-A72 cores at 2.5GHz, 4 Cortex-A53 cores at 1.8GHz); storage expansion via microSD card (up to 128GB), 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.1, Infrared, and USB Type-C connectivity support. The P9 measures 145×70.9×6.95mm and weighs 144 grams, while the P9 Plus measures 152.3×75.3×6.98mm and weighs 162 grams.

The Huawei P9 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant has been priced at EUR 599 (roughly Rs. 45,400), while the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant has been priced at EUR 649 (roughly Rs. 49,200). The Huawei P9 Plus on the other hand has been priced at EUR 749 (roughly Rs. 56,800). The phones will be made available in 29 launch countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe starting from April 16, in Ceramic White, Haze Gold, Prestige Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, and Titanium Grey colour variants.
