Turn On Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the Apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Turn on Battery saver
Disable Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS:
NOTE: By disabling your phones connectivity features when they are not in use including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth - you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth tiles to disable these options
- For additional GPS options, go to Settings > Location > Mode and select Battery saving
- To disable Hotspot, first return to Settings
- Next, tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Turn off Tethering & Mobile hotspot
Use 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G connectivity.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Select 2G
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Open Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display
- Turn off Adaptive brightness if necessary
- Tap Brightness level
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
- Go back to Display and tap Sleep
- Select a lower value, such as 15 seconds
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By setting your apps / accounts to sync less data, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an account to change sync options
- Clear the check boxes next to the sync options you want to turn off
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party applications can perform regular background tasks, and thus they can affect battery life even when they are not in use. As such, you might be able to improve battery life by removing or disabling unused third party apps.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Access Downloaded
- Select the desired app and tap Force stop / Disable to disable the app
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall > OK
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and thus its recommended to keep the phones OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- Open Settings
- Scroll down to, and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available. If so, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it. NOTE: this process will require a reboot
