    Hi everyone,

I've had a Razr Maxx on Verizon for the past two years, and it has been an absolutely terrible experience. Horrible phone and terrible customer support and service. Now that my contract is up, I want to get a new phone, but I don't want to make a large investment until the new NVIDIA chips start showing up in new models, but I also want to get off of Verizon and rid of my Razr Maxx as soon as possible.

So I guess my question is, what would be a good, affordable phone and carrier to hold me over for a while as I wait for the new Tegra? The carrier should not have a contract, and the phone should be a responsive droid of some sort--at least capable enough to run Google Maps well.

    Thanks in advance.

There are a lot of pre-paid carriers, but if you had bad reception with Verizon I doubt you're going to have very good reception with a pre-paid. I would take a look at Boost mobile, Virgin mobile, and maybe AT&T go phones.

Reception wasn't an issue as much as the quality of the phone itself--slow responsiveness or the screen not responding entirely only to suddenly register all the inputs at once, crashes, etc... it's been a nightmare really. As for verizon, I consider their business practices unethical at this point, so I want to get away from them. I'm in the Los Angeles area, FYI. I'll look into Boost mobile, Virgin mobile and AT&T go phones, though if there is a specific phone/carrier you'd recommend together, I'd appreciate more help. Thanks again!

Here's what I did. First I tried Republic Wireless.....poor reception with Sprint. Then I picked up an old Verizon phone and went to BYO Wireless. They have several plans starting at $#5 per month and use the Verizon network. You can add extra minutes if you need, you can lower or raise your plan monthly or you can just quit at any time. If you currently have Verizon, you can port your number to them. I've only had it a few weeks but the reception is crystal clear and none of the Verizon bullchit to deal with.

You can try Ting as they don't do contracts. They currently use the Sprint and T-Mobile towers so you can bring your own CDMA or GSM device. https:// zb7pqk11l14.ting.com/
