Hi all,
I'm new to this forum. I'm considering getting a new Treo with Verizon. I was wondering if it was possible to get it without a data plan. I would be using it mainly for the PDA functions, not really the email or web browsing. I do however want to be able to use AIM on the Treo. However, does that count as a text message, or does it count as data? My current handset with Verizon counts each Instant Message as a text, but I don't know if its different for the Treo's. I called Verizon and they weren't that helpful. So I decided to come here...thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Treo without Data Plan??
it MIGHT count as text messages, but to connect to the aim servers, uses internet.

Re: Treo without Data Plan??
The AIM function does use the Data portion. However if you have a TREO, to use it to the fullest, I would recommend a data plan, its worth it with all the stuff you can do!

Re: Treo without Data Plan??
Yeah, Treo with no data plan is a waste of time and money. If you must have a PDA, just get a cheap standalone from Palm and get a regular phone that already has AIM capabilities in it. I know they have some and you can get unlimited data with those phones with Vcast for $15 a month I believe. Hope this helps.

Re: Treo without Data Plan??
Very good advice. I didn't know VCast went down in price. Might have to look at them again.

Re: Treo without Data Plan??
I guess it's been awhile since I had Vcast. It looks like it's more than before. i used to get the Mobile web with Vcast for $15 a month. Now it seems to be $25. Sorry for the slight misleading.
