Checking the Amount of Space on the SD:
- Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
- Go to "Settings"
- Swipe to "Phone" and tap "Storage"
- View the "Available" value under "SD Card"
Formatting the SD Card:
WARNING! When you format the SD card, all files stored on it will be deleted, including ringtones / audio files, contacts, downloaded content etc. Before proceeding it's recommended that you create backups. To format the SD Card:
- Tap "Apps" from the home screen
- Access "Settings"
- Under "SD Card", tap "Format SD Card"
- Tap "Erase SD Card"
- In the pop-up message, tap "Erase Everything" to confirm
Opening or Deleting Files Stored on the SD Card
Deleting SD Card Files Using the Smartphone:
- While viewing the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Go to "Settings"
- Swipe to "Phone" and tap "Storage"
- Swipe to "SD Card" and tap "SD memory card"
- Tap "Make more space" and select "Browser", "Gallery", "Music" or "Miscellaneous"
- Mark the check boxes associated with the files / folders you wish to delete
- Tap "Delete" > "OK"
Opening or Deleting Files Using a Windows Computer:
- Connect the HTC Desire 820 to your computer using the USB cable
- Drag the "Status" bar down
- Tap "USB Connected" > "Connect USB storage"
- From the AutoPlay window that should appear on the computer, click to "Open folder to view files"
- Navigate to the desired files stored on the SD card
- Double-click a file to open it
- Right-click a file and click "Delete" to remove it from the SD storage
- When done, click the "Removable Storage" icon located in the system tray, and "Eject" your device
- Safely disconnect your smartphone from the computer
Transferring Files Between a Computer and the SD Card
Via a Mac Computer:
- Install HTC Sync Manager on the Mac, if necessary
- Connect the Desire 820 to the Mac via USB
- HSM should auto-launch once the smartphone is connected
- Follow the on-screen prompts to view and manage the files stored on the SD card
Using a Windows Computer:
- Establish a USB connection between the PC and Desire 820
- Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "USB connected" > "Connect USB storage"
- From the AutoPlay window on the PC, click to open the device's files and folders
- Open the SD card directory and navigate to the desired files
- Transfer the desired files between the SD card and PC
- Once the transfer is done, tap "Disconnect storage from PC" on the smartphone
- Safely disconnect your smartphone
Change the App Storage Location
NOTE: Your smartphone will use the phone's internal memory to store most application data. However, you can change the settings of various pre-loaded applications, so that they use the SD card storage instead.
Change the "Internet" App's Storage Settings:
- Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
- Open the "Internet" application
- Press "Menu" and go to "Settings"
- Tap "Advanced" > "Download storage"
- Select "Storage Card"
Change Storage Settings for the "Camera":
- Launch the "Camera" application
- From the viewfinder, press "Menu"
- Tap "Settings" > "Storage"
- Select "SD card"
Change the Storage Location for "Voice Recorder:
- Tap "Apps" while on a home screen
- Launch "Voice recorder"
- Press "Menu" and tap "Settings"
- Tap "Storage" and select "SD Card"
