WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all data stored on the internal memory will be lost, including media contents, contacts, downloaded items, ringtones etc. Furthermore, all of the phone’s settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Before resetting the phone you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up and restore data. For a guide on how to sync data using HTC Sync Manager, visit this thread.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Tap “Apps” on the home screen
- Launch “Settings”
- Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
- Turn on or off “Automatic restore” and “Backup my data”
- Tap “Reset phone”
- If the device is protected by a lock screen, enter the required password / PIN etc. to proceed
- Optionally, enable “Erase SD Card”. WARNING! By enabling this option, all data stored on the SD card will be deleted
- At the “Warning” pop-up, tap “OK” to reset the device
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: If you are unable to reset the phone via settings, you can try performing the factory reset via Recovery. The recovery menu can be accessed by performing a sequence of button presses, as follows:
- First, make sure the phone is turned off
- Press and hold “Volume Down”
- Press and release “Power”
- When the phone shows a black screen with red and blue text lines, release all buttons
- From the menu, use “Volume Down” to navigate and highlight “reboot to bootloader”
- Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
- From the bootloader menu, press “Volume down” to highlight “Boot to Recovery Mode”
- Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
- Use “Volume down” to navigate to and highlight “Boot to Recovery Mode”
- Press “Power”
- When you see a red triangle with an exclamation mark, hold “Power”, then press and release “Volume Up”
- From the recovery menu, press “Volume Down” to highlight “Wipe data / factory reset”
- Press “Power” and highlight “yes – delete all user data”
- Press “Power” to reset the phone
- Once the phone is reset, “Reboot system now” should be highlighted. Press “Power”
Check for Firmware Updates:
NOTE: After a factory reset you should verify if new software updates are available for download. To do this:
- Tap “Apps” on the home screen
- Go to “Settings”
- Scroll to “Phone” and tap “About”
- Tap “Software information” > “Check now”
- In case an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it on your phone
