Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: If one of your applications doesn’t work as intended or occupies too much storage, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache or data.

WARNING! Clearing an app’s data will delete all of your personal information stored within the application, including login and credit card information, saved games, high scores, settings etc. As such you should first try fixing the issues by clearing the app’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Phone” and tap “Apps”
  4. Swipe to “All’ and select the desired application
  5. Tap “Clear cache”
  6. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK”

Clear the Phone Cache Partition:

NOTE: When you wipe the cache partition you can solve various issues with your phone, similar to a factory reset. However unlike a factory reset, clearing the cache will not remove any of your personal information stored on the internal memory.

  1. Turn off the phone
  2. Press and hold “Volume Down”
  3. Press (and release) “Power”
  4. Once the phone shows a black screen with red and blue text, release “Volume Down”
  5. From the menu, press “Volume down” to highlight “Reboot to bootloader”
  6. Press “Power” to select the option
  7. From the bootloader menu, press “Volume Down” to highlight “Boot to Recovery Mode”
  8. Press “Power” to select
  9. In recovery, press “Volume Down” to highlight “Wipe cache partition”
  10. Press “Power”
  11. With “Reboot system now highlighted”, press “Power”

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the problems, you can try factory resetting your phone. Visit this link for instructions on how to reset the HTC Desire 828.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party application on your device which causes problems and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to easily remove it by first rebooting your phone in safe mode. In safe mode, all third party apps are disabled.

  1. Wake the screen
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. From the pop-up window, tap and hold “Power off”
  4. When prompted to “Reboot to safe mode”, tap “Restart”
  5. Once the phone reboots, “Safe mode” should be labeled in the lower-left corner of the screen
  6. To remove an application, first access “Settings”
  7. Scroll to “Phone” and tap “Apps”
  8. Swipe to “Downloaded” and select the desired app
  9. Tap “Uninstall” > “OK”
  10. Once done, you can exit safe mode by pressing and holding “Power”, and rebooting your device as you normally would
