Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache / data.

WARNING! When you clear app data, all the personal information stored within the app will be deleted, including user profiles, login and credit card information, settings, high scores etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Phone” and tap “Apps”
  4. Select the desired app
  5. Tap “Storage” > “Clear cache” > “Clear data”
  6. Tap “OK” to confirm

Clear the Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, or runs out of storage inexplicably and you’re considering factory resetting the phone, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition instead. This can yield similar results to a factory reset without losing any personal data stored on the device’s internal memory.

  1. Ensure the phone is powered off
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” simultaneously
  3. Release “Power” when the phone vibrates
  4. When you gain access to “hTC download menu”, release “Volume down” too
  5. Tap “Volume down” to navigate the menu and highlight “reboot to bootloader”
  6. Press “Power” to select the option
  7. Wat for the HTC logo and “No Command” screen to appear
  8. Viewing the “No Command” screen, press and hold “Power” and press and release “Volume Up”
  9. When you see the “Android Recovery” screen, release “Power”
  10. Navigate the recovery menu by pressing “Volume down” repeatedly and highlight “Wipe cache partition”
  11. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  12. After the cache partition has been wiped, press “Power” while “Reboot system now” is highlighted to restart your device

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled by default.

  1. While viewing the home screen, press and hold “Power”
  2. From the “Phone options” pop-up, tap and hold “Power off”
  3. At the “Reboot to Safe Mode” prompt, tap “Restart”
  4. After the phone finishes rebooting, a “Safe Mode” label should be visible in the lower-left corner of the screen
  5. To uninstall an app, first open “Settings”
  6. Then scroll to “Phone” and tap “Apps”
  7. Access “Downloaded”
  8. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall” > “OK” to confirm
