We all saw how the HTC One managed to put up a decent fight against the Samsung Galaxy S4 a few days ago. And as promised, here is the comparison with the Nokia Lumia 928. Do you think it will do just as well against one of the oldest cell phone manufacturers around today? Read on to find out.

    1. Size and weight - Even though the HTC One didn’t was bigger and heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S4, when compared with the Nokia Lumia 928, it does a much better job. First of all, the HTC One weighs just 143 g which is almost 20 g less than the Lumia 928. Even though the Nokia Lumia series has some of the heaviest phones around we still have to give HTC credit for being able to make a smart phone which is lighter. In terms of dimensions as well, the HTC One is thinner and less bulky than the Lumia 928. It is a little longer though but that is understood considering it has a bigger display. HTC is off to a much better start here, one point for them.

    2. Display - Now we come to the display. In terms of viewing quality the HTC was able to prove that it was far ahead of Samsung with 468 ppi spread over a 4.7” screen. There is little doubt that the 332 ppi 4.5” screen on the Lumia 928 is going to be able to do anything different here. After covering 2 points I can’t believe I’m saying this, the HTC One now has a two point lead over the Nokia Lumia 928.

    3. Memory & Storage - Both these phones are pretty much equal when it comes to memory and storage. The Lumia 928 offers 32 GB of user memory while the HTC One offers 26 GB. Not much of a difference here and if I was Nokia, I wouldn’t be boasting about the additional 6 GB of memory either. Now get ready for a shocker, the HTC One comes with 2 GB of RAM as compared to the 1 GB of RAM in the Lumia 928. While users won’t really be able to notice much of difference between the phones in terms of performance it really is sad that an industry leader like Nokia is running their flagship phones on just 1 GB of RAM when others like Samsung and HTC have already upgraded to 2 GB. It wouldn’t be fair to avoid this point to HTC, so I’m going to call it a draw.

    4. Camera - Finally, something for Nokia to brag about. I was getting a little confused on who the bigger brand was. The Lumia 928 has an amazing 8.7 MP camera which boasts of many amazing features including Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) which is a very handy feature indeed. The HTC One on the other hand just has a measly 4 MP camera. It is quite difficult to understand why HTC would go for such a low level camera on its flagship phone. I’m sure users wouldn’t have minded shelling out a couple hundred dollars more for a decent camera. Maybe they lack the technology, maybe they just don’t want to. Whatever the reason is, for now the Lumia 928 comes out on top in this point. Finally something for Nokia lovers to cheer for.

    5. OS & Performance - The HTC One runs on Android 4.1.2 (Jellybean) which is in all honesty a pretty cool software. But Windows Phone 8 with its lives tiles comes out just a little in front when it comes to the operating system. There are rumors though that HTC will be releasing an update to Android 4.2.2 (Jellybean) for the HTC One in June 2013 sometime. If that comes true, they will be able to compete with pretty much any other cell phone software out there today. Nonetheless, the current operating system on the phone isn’t half bad and there really isn’t anything outstanding on Windows Phone 8. It wouldn’t be fair to award this point to Nokia. So, let’s call it a draw.

    6. Battery - Both these phones have incredible battery lives. While Nokia has come a long way from the Lumia 800 which had a pathetic battery, the 2,000 mAh battery on the Lumia 928 can easily pull through a day with little effort. But don’t think the HTC One comes in second. It has a 2,300 mAh battery which can provide some pretty amazing battery times as well. Once again, the only fair thing to do here would be to call it a tie.

    7. Price - The HTC One is one of the most reasonable priced cell phones in the market today. It can be purchased free from contract for just $ 328.50 in stores today. On the other hand, if you are in the mood to purchase the Lumia 928 free from contract, get ready to spend nothing short of $ 539.99. Again, $ 200 additional just for an 8.7 MP camera? I don’t have an option here. The point goes to HTC.

    Conclusion

So the final score reads 3-1. But did you expect that HTC would be the one with 3 points. Makes you think whether everything you thought you knew is true doesn’t it? So you see, while Nokia is undoubtedly the bigger brand, what I feared has come true. HTC has been able to release a cell phone with the same functionality as Nokia’s flagship phone at a cheaper price. Now for a user that isn’t brand conscious, why would you go for the Nokia Lumia 928 apart from the super cool camera? Now if you happened to own one of those swanky DSLR cameras or whatever they are called, there is no reason for you to worry too much about the camera on your smartphone anyway. And since the 4 MP camera on the HTC One does a pretty decent job as a backup camera, there is no reason why you wouldn’t give it a shot. Go ahead, choose your brand and spend wisely. The choice is yours.
