How-to: Transfer Contacts from an iPhone to the Samsung Galaxy S5

Transferring Contacts Through iTunes:

iTunes can be used for syncing contacts between your iPhone and Google account. In turn, this allows you to sync your Google account with your Galaxy S5, making it very easy for you to transfer your iPhone contacts. Synced contacts include their image, email address, homepage and any other details included within the contact. For this approach you are required to have access to a computer with Internet and iTunes installed.

1. Launch iTunes on the computer
2. Use the proprietary USB cable to connect your iPhone to the PC
3. After it successfully connects, the iPhone will pop-up in iTunes. Click it to open the device's summary page
4. Go to the "Info" tab
5. Mark the "Sync Contacts With" check box, and choose "Google Contacts" from the drop-down list
6. Register your Google account if you haven't done this already. Otherwise, you can click "Configure" and select an existing Google account
7. Click "Apply" and allow iTunes to sync contacts with your Google account
8. On your Galaxy S5, register the same account as the one used in iTunes. NOTE: if you need to add an account, go to "Settings" > "Accounts"
9. Set Google so that it syncs contacts with your SGS5, and you're all set

Transferring Contacts Using iCloud:

As long as you've used the iCloud backup service on your iPhone, your contacts should be backed up on your iCloud account. By signing in with your account, you can export these contacts using a computer with Internet access. To do so:

1. Launch the Internet browser on your computer
2. Visit https://www.icloud.com/ and sign in with your iCloud account
3. Click "Contacts" and select the contacts that you want to export
4. Click the button shaped like a cog wheel, located in the bottom-left side
5. Select "Export vCard" and wait for your computer to download the VCF file
6. Import the file to "Google Contacts", or alternatively, connect your Samsung Galaxy S5 to your computer via USB, and transfer the vCard file in the "sdcard" directory. Then, open the "Contacts" app, go to the "Contacts" screen, tap "Menu" > "Settings" > "Contacts" > "Import / Export" and follow the rest of the self-explanatory steps

Transferring Contacts through "My Contacts Backup":

If you don't have access to a computer, you can still transfer the contacts from your iPhone using third party applications such as "My Contacts Backup". This iOS app allows you to back up your contacts as a VCF file, which can then be sent to the SGS5 via email.

1. Install "My Contacts Backup" on your iPhone via the App Store
2. Open the application and tap "Backup"
3. Once the file is created, tap "Email" to attach the vCard to a new email
4. Enter your own Gmail address in the "To" field, and send the email containing the attachment
5. On the Galaxy S5, open the email and download the vCard file
6. Import the file's contents through the "Contacts" app, by going to "Menu" > "Settings" > "Contacts" > "Import / Export"

Using "Send Anywhere" to Transfer Contacts:

Last but not least, you can also use the "Send Anywhere" iOS and Android application in order to transfer your contacts through a P2P connection, without needing access to a computer. For this approach:

1. Visit the App Store and download "Send Anywhere" on your iPhone
2. Install the app on the Galaxy S5, from the Google Play Store
3. Open the application on both devices
4. On the iPhone, tap "Send" > "Contacts"
5. Mark the contacts that you want to share, and tap "Send"
6. Lastly, select the desired method of transfer. You can tap "Receive" on the SGS5 and enter the randomly generated transfer code from the iPhone. You can also tap "Generate QR Code" on the iPhone, and scan the code with the SGS5's camera in order to begin the transfer
