Back Up App Data:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Swipe to “User and Backup” and tap “Backup and reset”
  4. To proceed, you need to be signed in with a Google account. If necessary, tap “Backup account” > “Add account” and follow the on-screen prompts
  5. Enable the “Back up my data” and “Backup account” check boxes

Back Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Open “Contacts”
  2. Tap “Menu” > “Merge accounts”
  3. Select either “Google” or “Samsung account”
  4. Sign in with your account if necessary, and tap “OK” to confirm

Back up Contacts on the SD card:

  1. Make sure the SD card is installed on your smartphone
  2. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  3. Go to “Settings”
  4. Swipe to “Applications” and tap “Contacts”
  5. Tap “Contacts to display” > “All contacts”
  6. Tap “Import / Export” > “Export to SD card”
  7. Review the name of the backup file for future use and tap “OK”

Back Up Media Files

On the SD Card:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “My Files”
  3. Swipe to “Local Storage” and tap “Device storage”
  4. Tap “Menu” > “Select”
  5. Locate the media files / folders you want to back up and mark the check boxes associated with them
  6. Tap “Menu” > “Copy” > “SD Card”
  7. Navigate to the desired backup folder and tap “Paste here”

On a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the phone to your computer via USB
  2. Swipe the “Status” bar down
  3. Tap “Connected as a media device” and enable “Media device (MTP)”
  4. In the AutoPlay window on the computer, click “Open device to view files”
  5. Navigate to the desired files
  6. Copy and transfer the files in the desired backup location on your computer
  7. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage from the system tray and safely disconnect it from the USB

On a Mac Computer:

NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps of Kies is already installed on the Mac.

  1. Open the Internet browser on your Mac and visit Kies Support
  2. Click “Kies 3 for Mac”
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to download and install Kies on the computer
  4. Connect the S5 Neo to your Mac via USB
  5. If necessary, swipe the “Status” bar down and tap “Connected as a media device” > enable “Media device (MTP)”
  6. Open Kies on the computer
  7. Click the “Back up / restore” tab inside Kies
  8. Click the “Backup” tab
  9. Check the boxes next to “Music” and “Photo” and click “Backup”
  10. Once done, drag the phone’s virtual drive to the trash can and safely disconnect the device from the Mac
