Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps doesn’t work properly (crashes, freezes, won’t start), you might be able to fix this behavior by clearing the app’s cache / data.

WARNING! When you clear an application’s data, all personal information stored within the app will be lost, including login and credit card information, profiles, saved games, settings etc. To avoid losing data you can start by clearing the app’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer and go to “Settings”
  2. Swipe to “Applications”
  3. Tap “Application manager”
  4. Swipe to “All” or “Downloaded”
  5. Select the desired application
  6. Tap “Clear cache”
  7. If clearing the cache did not help, proceed to “Clear data” and tap “OK”

Wipe the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone doesn’t work as intended and you are planning to master reset it, you might be able to fix whatever issues you’re experiencing by clearing the phone’s cache partition instead. This can have similar effects as a factory reset without losing personal data. To wipe the cache:

  1. Turn off the smartphone
  2. Press and hold “Volume Up”, “Power” and “Home” at the same time
  3. After the phone vibrates, release the “Home” and “Power” keys
  4. At the “Android System Recovery” screen, release all hardware buttons
  5. From the recovery menu use the volume buttons to navigate to and highlight “Wipe cache partition”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Once the cache partition is wiped, “Reboot system now” should be highlighted
  8. Press “Power” and wait for the terminal to reboot

Reboot in Safe Mode to Remove an App:

NOTE: In case one of your third party applications is causing issues on your phone and prevents you from removing it, you can reboot your device in Safe Mode and uninstall it afterwards. In safe mode, all third party apps are disabled.

  1. Turn off the phone
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. At the “Samsung” splash screen, release the “Power” button and immediately press and hold “Volume Down” instead
  4. Keep holding the volume key pressed until the phone finishes restarting
  5. A “Safe mode” label should be visible in the lower-left corner of the screen
  6. To remove an app, fist go to “Settings”
  7. Then swipe to “Applications”
  8. Tap “Application manager” and access the “Downloaded” screen
  9. Select the desired app
  10. Tap “Uninstall” > “OK”
  11. To exit safe mode, simply press and hold “Power” and tap “Restart”
