Back Up App Data:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Tap Cloud and accounts > Backup & reset
- Check the Back up my data option to back up account data, Wi-Fi passwords, and settings to your Google account
- Enable Automatic restore to restore backed up app data and settings upon reinstalling applications
NOTE: You can choose to restore app data synced with your Google backup account the next time you sign in with the account on the device.
Back Up Contacts on an Account:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Tap Cloud and accounts
- Select the account you want to use for sync
- Tap More > Sync now
NOTE: You can restore contacts backed up in this manner the next time you sign in with your Google backup account.
Back Up Contacts to SD Card:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Go to Contacts
- Tap Menu > Settings
- Tap Contacts to display > All contacts
- Select Import / Export contacts
- Tap Import to SD card
- Name the backup file if necessary and tap OK to confirm
Restore Contacts from SD Card:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Contacts
- Tap Menu > Settings
- Tap Contacts to display and select All contacts if necessary
- Tap Import / Export contacts > Import from SD card
- Review the file name for the contact list and tap OK to confirm
Back Up Media Files Using The Phone:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch My Files
- Tap My Device > Menu
- Tap Share
- Select the content you want to back up and tap Share again
- Select the location you want the content to be shared with and wait for the progress bar to reach the end
Restore Media Files from the Phone:
- Tap Apps
- Open My Files
- Tap SD card
- Press Menu > Edit
- Tick the check box associated with the media files you want to restore
- Tap Menu > Move > My device
- Tap Move here to move the data to the phone storage
- To move / restore the files in a different location, tap the folder name or Create folder, and tap Move here
Back Up Media Files On a PC or Mac Computer:
- Launch the web browser on the computer and visit Samsung Smart Switch?
- Download and Install Samsung Smart Switch for your type of computer (PC or Mac)
- Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB, and enable Media device (MTP) / File Transfer (MTP) at the prompt or from the Notification area
- If necessary, allow your computer to install any required drivers for the phone
- Launch Samsung Smart Switch and allow it to make the connection
- Launch the File Explorer / File Finder on the computer and navigate to the media files on your phone
- Copy the files and transfer them in the desired backup location on the computer
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray (PC) or by dragging it from the desktop and dropping it into the trash can (Mac)
- You can now safely disconnect the device from the USB port
Restore Media Files from a Mac or PC:
NOTE: Skip the first 2 steps if Samsung Smart Switch is already installed on your computer.
- Visit Samsung Smart Switch? using your computers web browser
- Download and install the appropriate Samsung Smart Switch version for your type of computer
- Connect the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to your computer via USB
- When prompted, or from the Notification area, enable Media device (MTP) / File transfer (MTP)
- Open the File Finder / File Explorer on the computer and locate the media file backups
- Copy the backups and transfer the files on the phone storage, preferably in the Media directory or the folder they originate from
- Once done, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect the Samsung device from the USB port
