Clear App Cache / Data:
NOTE: If one of your applications crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the apps cache and / or data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal information stored within the app will be deleted. This includes save files, user profiles, credit card and login details, settings etc. To avoid losing personal data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Applications and tap Application manager
- Access All or Downloaded
- Select the desired app and tap Clear cache
- If necessary, tap Clear data > OK (Read WARNING above)
Wipe the Cache Partition:
NOTE: In case your phone doesnt work as intended or runs out of storage inexplicably and you are considering factory resetting it, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phones cache partition. This can have similar results to a factory reset without losing any personal data on the devices internal storage. To clear the cache partition:
- Ensure the phone is turned off
- Then, press and hold Power, Home and Volume Up at the same time
- At the Samsung / Android logo, release the buttons and wait for access to the Android System Recovery menu
- In Recovery, press Volume Down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power to select the option
- Press Volume down to highlight Yes
- Press Power to confirm
- After the cache is cleared Reboot system now should be highlighted. Press Power to confirm and restart your device
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt solve the issues, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode to Uninstall an App:
NOTE: In case you have installed a third party application that causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app within Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, all third party apps are disabled. To access Safe Mode:
- First, power off your phone if necessary
- Next, press and hold Power
- When the Samsung logo appears, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Once the phone finishes restarting, release Volume down (NOTE: a Safe Mode label should be shown in the lower-left corner of the home screen)
- Next, open the apps drawer and launch Settings
- Go to Applications
- Select the desired app and tap Uninstall two times
- To exit safe mode, press and hold Power and tap Restart
