Back Up Application Data:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Backup & Reset
- Enable Back up my data to back up app data, settings and passwords to your Google account
- Enable Automatic restore to allow app data etc. to be restored automatically when signing in with your Google account
Back Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:
- Launch Contacts
- Tap More > Settings
- If you have contacts on your phone that havent been synced with your account, tap Move device contacts to
- Tap Settings and go to Accounts
- Select an account to sync the contacts with
- Tap More > Sync Now
NOTE: The contacts backed up using this method can be automatically restored the next time you sign in with your Samsung or Google backup account.
Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:
- Open the Internet browser on the computer
- Head down to Samsung Smart Switch?
- Click Samsung Smart Switch for PC and follow the on-screen steps to install the app on the PC
- Turn on Media device (MTP) / File Transfer (MTP) when prompted or from the Notification area
- Launch the File Explorer on the PC and locate the desired media files on the phone
- Copy the files and transfer them in the desired backup location on the computer storage
- After the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:
- Follow the first 4 steps above
- Open the File Explorer on the computer
- Locate the media file backups on the PC storage
- Copy the files and transfer them on the phone storage, preferably in the Media folder or the directories they originate from
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB port
Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:
NOTE: If Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac, skip the first 3 steps below.
- Open the Internet browser on the Mac
- Visit Kies Support
- Click Kies 3 for Mac and install Kies on the Mac
- Connect the Samsung device to your Mac via USB
- Enable File Transfer (MTP) / Media device (MTP) at the prompt or from the Notification area
- Launch Kies on the Mac and access the Back up / restore tab
- Go to the Backup tab
- Check the boxes associated with Music, Photos and other media file types you want to back up
- Click Backup to start the process
- Once the process is complete, eject the phone storage by dragging the phones virtual drive form the desktop and dropping it into the Trash can
- You can safely disconnect the device from the USB port
Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:
- Follow the firs 6 steps above
- Go to the Restore tab
- Check the boxes associated with Photos, Music and other media file types you want to restore
- Click Restore and follow the on-screen prompts
- Once the process is done, eject the phone storage by dragging and dropping the devices virtual drive from the desktop and into the trash can
- Safely disconnect the device from the USB port
