Using a Google Account:

NOTE: With the help of a Google account you can sync the contacts stored on your Galaxy SII, after which the contacts can be re-synced from the respective Google account with the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact.

  1. Sign in with your Google account on the SGSII
  2. Press "Menu" while on the home screen
  3. Go to "Settings"
  4. Under "My accounts" tap "Google"
  5. Tap your "user name" or "email address" at the top of the screen
  6. Clear and mark the "Sync Contacts" check box or tap "Sync now"
  7. Switch to the Xperia Z3 Compact and access the phone's "Settings" menu
  8. Go to "Accounts" and register the same Google account as the one used on the Samsung device
  9. Allow the account to sync contacts with the Compact

Using the "Contacts" app and the "Import / Export" Function:

NOTE: Using the default contacts app, you can export the contacts stored on your Galaxy SII in the form of a VCF file, which can then be transferred to and imported on the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, either via email or with the help of a computer.

  1. Open the "Contacts" app on the Galaxy SII
  2. From the "Contacts" tab, press "Menu"
  3. Tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
  4. Press "Menu" > "Import / Export" > "Export to SD card"
  5. Make sure you write down or remember the backup file's name before tapping "OK"
  6. Once the file has been created, open the email client and compose a new email
  7. Attach the VCF file to the email and send it to your own Gmail address
  8. On the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, open the email and download the attached VCF file
  9. Open the "Phone" app on the Compact, and go to the "Contacts" tab
  10. Press "Menu" and tap "Import contacts" > "SD card"
  11. Select the VCF file and tap "OK"

NOTE: After the vCard / VCF file has been created on the Samsung Galaxy SII, you can transfer it to the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact by connecting both smartphones to your computer via USB, and manually transferring the file from one phone to the other. Then, you can import its contents using the import method above.

Using "Send Anywhere":

NOTE: In case you wish to transfer your contacts "over the air" using a third party application, then you can do so with Send Anywhere. This is an app that can transfer contacts and various other types of files between phones using a P2P connection.

  1. Visit the Google Play Store and install "Send Anywhere" on both Android smartphones
  2. Launch the app on both devices
  3. On the sender device (the Galaxy SII), tap "Send" > "Contacts"
  4. Mark the contacts you want to share and tap "Send"
  5. Select the desired method of transfer. Tapping "Receive" on the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact allows you to commence the transfer after entering the randomly generated transfer code from the Galaxy SII. You can also tap "Generate QR Code" on the Samsung device, and scan the resulting code with the Compact's camera to begin the transfer
