Check the Amount of SD Card Storage:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Access "Settings" and scroll to "Device"
  3. Tap "Storage"
  4. The "Available" and "Total" values will be shown under "SD card"

Format the SD Card:

WARNING! Formatting the SD card will result in the deletion of all data stored on it, including multimedia files, contacts, apps, downloaded content etc. Create backups if necessary. To proceed with the format:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Access the phone's "Settings" menu
  3. Scroll to "Device" and tap "Storage"
  4. Tap "Erase SD Card" under "SD Card"
  5. To confirm, tap "Erase SD Card" again
  6. If needed, follow any on-screen self-explanatory steps to complete the format

Change the Camera App's Default Storage Location:

NOTE: By default, certain pre-loaded applications like the "Camera" app stores data on the phone's internal memory. This option can be changed from the application's settings menu, and for the "Camera" app specifically, follow the steps below:

  1. Launch the "Camera" application
  2. From the viewfinder, tap "Settings"
  3. Access "Data storage"
  4. When given the choice, tap "SD card" instead of "Internal storage"

Opening or Deleting Files on the SD Card

Using Your Smartphone:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Launch the "File Commander" application
  3. When prompted to register, tap "Register now" and follow the on-screen instructions, or select to "Register Later"
  4. Open the SD card directory and navigate to the desired files
  5. Tap a file to open it
  6. To remove a file, navigate to it and tap and hold its name, then tap "Delete" > "OK"

Using a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Sony Xperia E3 to your Windows PC using the USB cable
  2. From the AutoPlay window on the computer, click to browse the phone's folders
  3. Locate the desired files stored on the SD card
  4. To open a file, double-click it. To delete it, select it and press "Delete" on the computer's keyboard
  5. Once you're done opening and / or deleting items, click the "Mass Storage Device" icon from the system tray and safely disconnect your smartphone from the computer

Transferring Files

From the Internal Storage to the SD Card:

  1. Open the apps drawer and launch the "File Commander" application
  2. Navigate to the files you wish to transfer
  3. Mark the check boxes associated with the items you wish to transfer
  4. Tap "Copy" and go to the target location on the SD Card
  5. Once there, tap "Edit" > "Paste"

From a Windows PC to the SD Card:

  1. Establish a USB connection between the Sony Xperia E3 and your computer
  2. After it connects, an AutoPlay window should appear. From there, select to browse the phone's files
  3. Open the directory representing the SD card, and go to where you wish to copy the files from your computer (or locate the files you want to copy to the computer)
  4. Open a second Windows Explorer window and locate the desired files stored on your PC's hard drive (or navigate to the location where you wish to transfer files from the SD card)
  5. Copy the desired items between the PC and SD card
  6. After the transfer is done, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon from the system tray
  7. Click "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" > "OK"
  8. It's now safe to disconnect your smartphone from the computer
