My boss just got a blackberry bold (our business partner sent it to him as a gift) and i'm considering getting one myself. I currently have a nokia e71, and its good, but after playing with the bold, and having a very favorable experience with the 8820, i'm considering either switching back to the 8820 or upgrading to the bold.

for anyone who's had time to mess around with the bold - is it worth it to shell out the cash for it?

or am i better off just buying an 8820 from ebay?

i dont think its worth the premium of like 800 dollars, stick with the 8820 until it hits the mainstream market next year

Technology is great and all, but only after it has been out for several months and the prices comes down.

I think the iPhone is a perfect example of this.

I played with a buddy's Bold and while it was nice and all, it's not something I would fork out the money for. If I'm paying 500 to 800 bucks for something, I want it to be a bit bigger than a hand held device.

If one were given to me for work, that would be a different story. Also I would not buy a first gen device, until it's been out for at least a year and maybe ready for it's second version to come out.

WIth the economy like this, it's crazy to spend money on the Bold. Yes, 3G is cool, but it's bigger than the Curve! The Curve has the perfect form factor, just wish it had 3g!

Speaking of which, does anyone know when the bold comes out? I need to test it with RSA token software at my office, VIP's already requesting it!

Well you could always contact RIM and see about getting one to testing.
That is how a buddy's IT department gets a lot of their "sample" PDA/Phones.

I dunno RIM does a pretty good job of sorting out the bugs

Ture, but products are always crisper 2 & 3 generations down the road... not to mention the price drop. It JUST isn't worth the money in the long run to pay more to be the first for something that will be improved a few months later.

This goes back to my American philosophy and why our economy is so bad. We Americans don't make the best choices financially because of our upbringing in an over-abundant society.

... dude, just wait it out.
