RIM plants to launch a BlackBerry application store in March 2009, which seems to be an exact carbon copy of Apple's iPhone App Store. App developers can begin submitting their entries for the store as early as next week. RIM also mentioned that app developers will be able to set their own prices for their applications and they'll be able to keep 80% of the revenue.

RIM hopes the application storefront as well as the on-device application center will give BlackBerry users a better selection of more advanced applications, as well as a better interface for managing installations and purchases. It appears RIM will be working with PayPal to allow payment online for their applications as well.

Right now it's all considered hype, so we'll see. Will the BlackBerry presence in the market be strong enough to support a full-fledged application store?

Not found of the idea. There are already a lot of good third party applications. I don't think they will see anywhere near the success of the apply market as blackberry's tend to be more business and less teenager oriented.

Its really interesting to see how the third party contribution will help RIM, as the OS of Apple is Mac and not open for contribution from third party. I think this competition is a healthy sign...

I believe that there is a market for this. Especially now with the new touch phones. People always wanna have the best and coolest phone out, and with an Apps store this allows them this pleasure.
