Found Blackberry Pearl...how can I use it

I found a blackberry, and contacted the owner to be told the insurance has already replaced it. How can I noe use this phone? With verizon.

If he replaced it using insurance, the device [you have] would have been black listed, meaning it is considered "stolen" you cannot use it.
