9780 battery level incorrect

Recently my daughters 9780 started acting up. The battery suddenly goes to red and switches off. When I switch it on again the battery shows an almost full battery. This happens repeatedly and is always the same. I've tried a wipe and reinstalled the OS.

I would take out the battery and check the contacts on the phone to the battery. If it's not the contacts then it's the battery. Sometimes batteries just wear out after a while and do funny things when charging/decharging.
