that's the way it is when you're only 1 of 2 gsm carriers in the country. and oh yeah, now they own the only other gsm carrier so they pretty much have a monopoly on gsm in canada.

It is somthing that the CRTC doesn't see. They think there are two other carriers someone can choose from which is wrong. If you want GSM you must use rogers. Rogers buying Fido I think was a huge mistake on the CRTC part. As you can see ALL prices in the wireless industry are going up. Not just for Rogers but for all carriers.

    Re: Rogers Exorbitant prices

When Rogers first took over Fido, there was no significant change in their rates or plans. Now I've noticed that Fido has slowly increased their rates, and lowered the amount of minutes they provide in each plan. It's Rogers getting Fido's prices more closely in line with their own so now it doesn't matter which one you choose, there still isn't much value offered in either's plans.

    Re: Rogers Exorbitant prices

    I Completely dissagree.

Almost accross the board Rogers overall rates are steadily DEcreasing.

People see little things like CD going up by $1 or other minor increases and fail to look at the big picture.

Here a few examples of what I mean:

In the past what would sending 2,500 text messages cost you? Somewhere around $250.00? What does it cost you today? $10. or if you subscribe to any value pack only $6.67

In the past what would it have cost you to receive 5,000 minutes worth of calls in a month? Well over $1,000.00 What would it cost you today? Only $30.

In the past what would it have cost you to Make Or Receive 5,000 minutes worth of calls to/from other people on the Rogers Network? Again about $1,000.00 What would that cost today? Again only $30.

Sure some of the rates are going up, but undeniably the overall value is absolutely increasing.

    Re: Rogers Exorbitant prices

I know, it's hard. We all want a cellphone plan for $5, and a top of the line phone for $10.

It's not gonna happen. Until there's nearly as much competition as in the states, and NEARLy as many subscribers (potential or not), nadda.

EDIT: Okay I went to find the link and it's gone??? was from hofo., basically this is the Q2 stats only., not annual totals.
What's more., from a business stand-point if you compare what Rogers made in profits last year (~$19million), to what they made this year ($200ishmillion)....doesn't look like ANYTHING is going to change in the near future

    btw, I LOVE Rogers.

    Re: Rogers Exorbitant prices

it's called the free market. get used to it. and 'exorbitant' is a matter or opinion. rogers has millions of customers and the customer base keeps growing, and in my opinion, rogers customer service is second to none in comparison to the competition.

doesn't look like most canadians are agreeing with you. not to mention rogers continually improves its services. people vote with their dollars, and people are voting rogers more and more everday.

and don't think for a second i'm trying to say rogers is a perfect company. it definitely is not. but overall, it makes more good decisions than bad decisions.

if you can't afford what you want in life, maybe it's time for you to try and earn some more money.

also, there references to the CRTC are lame. you want the government regulating rates? cellular service isn't a monopolized industry and therefore does not need government regulation of the rates. cellular service is hardly a *right*, it's something you earn and pay for. nobody is entitled to a cell phone, internet service, home phone, or television. you must earn your own money and pay for it.
