I just found out that the GPS navigation feature on my HP 6515 is being charged as data transfer. I thought it has a built in separate satellite receiver. Still, it appears to go through the Rogers network.
I am upset because
1) I have no idea how much data is transferred
2) It shouldn't go through the Rogers network in the first place
It's a bunch of crap.

Re: GPS Navigation charges
Now, now. When I get a billion dollars I'll put a free satellite up in space for everyone to use, and nobody will ever have to pay for GPS again. Yep, my billion dollar free satellite is going undermine all the corporations who think they can pass the astronomical cost of launching something into space down to the typical consumer.

Like any other receiver (Garmin) you do not pay for signals received. Yet, Rogers figures out a way to charge you anyway by bypassing the built-in receiver. Unbelievable.

Re: GPS Navigation charges
Okay, I'm going to close this thread, it's getting kind of silly. No matter what device you have, you are going to have to pay some kind of monthly service fee to use a GPS. In addition to that, your cell provider may charge you data fees for usage of the service, which operates through their wireless internet. If you don't have some kind of data package included in your plan, then yes you are going to pay data charges.
All of the US service providers are like that, and I'm pretty sure the Canadian providers are the same. It's not your device or your provider, it's ALL OF THEM as chillin has tried to explain to you. It's very silly for you to have a bad attitude toward Rogers when in fact you simply don't understand what you are paying for in your plan. If I wanted a GPS on my phone, it would cost me $9.99/month, but the data charges are included in my plan because I pay $15/month for unlimited data.
Call Rogers and ask for a plan with unlimited data. That will solve your problem. Unfortunately, you didn't come to our site to try and solve a problem, you came just to gripe and complain, and we get way too much of that already. Start a new thread when you're ready to ask for help, until then this pointless gripe thread is closed.
