I just got a cell phone with service provided by Rogers. I live in New Brunswick and will be traveling to another part of the province later this week that is outside of my local calling area. I don't know much about cell phones yet but it seems to me that if someone calls me while I'm away on my phone, I'll be charged a good amount of money just for answering it. So, my question is two-fold:
1. How much will I get charged per minute to receive or make phone calls while I'm away?
2. Is there any way that I can minimize these charges with roaming numbers or something like that?
Most of the calls that I will be receiving and making are to people who will also be at the conference with me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and the sooner the better!

Re: Minimizing Charges Outside Local Area - HELP!!
UNLIMITED CALLS IN CANADA COAST TO COAST*How it works?1. Apply unlimited incoming + MY5 (National Wild) plan*
$25+$10
2. Apply unlimited Canada long distance service from other provider (about $5/month)
3. Put the long distance access number in your MY5.
4. If you want to make a out going call, call the access number 1st. then enter the destination number followed by the # key.
Now, all your outgoing calls to any Canadian city is free!! (as long as you are in Canada)
If you are Rogers customer, you can install a Autodialer Chip to make calls more easy.
Once a Autodialer chip is installed, you can dial directly the destination number . You can also choice number from call list or from contacts and dial out.

Re: Minimizing Charges Outside Local Area - HELP!!
I do have the $25 MY5 plan but they won't let you add 1-800 numbers or anything like that as one of your MY5 numbers. So, I don't see how all your outgoing calls are free. And that really doesn't help you with incoming calls. You would still be charged for those.
Just to let everyone know, I was speaking to Rogers a moment ago and they let me know that when you receive a call outside of your local area from someone on your MY5 list, you aren't charged any long distance.
So, what we did was add the $6 35 minutes of long distance to our $25 plan. That way we can both receive and make calls while we are away. (It was more the incoming that I was worried about. I can also hop over to a payphone to make calls.)

Find a local long distance service access number ( no 18xx ), and put it in your MY5, that is how you can save money.
